Rumor is circulating that Infinity Ward can't commit to the development of Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3 as the developer may be taking a pass for a chance to try their hand at developing an MMOG. Destructoid is reporting that inside sources have told them that Infinity Ward is recruiting some of the talent behind EverQuest 2, one of which may be the game's lead designer, for what may be the developer's first foray into the MMOG gaming space. Destructoid goes on to state that some Blizzard employees may also be involved to help get the project off the ground, which would not be too surprising if the rumors turn out to be true given Infinity Ward's ties to Activision.

VG247 has also has information quoted from sources confirming some of the information and stated that sources have also revealed the next Call of Duty title may be developed by a Canadian-based developer (possibly Radical Entertainment) or Sledgehammer Games.

If Infinity Ward is in fact trying their hand at an MMOG we'll have to wait and see if they create a new and original IP, or if this might be the long rumored Call of Duty MMOG that has been circulated for some time.

Update: SOE Executive Producer Alan "Brenlo" Crosby recently spoke with Massively and ensured them that the rumor that the EverQuest 2 Lead Developer might be headed to Infinity Ward was false and went on to mention have started due to the fact that former SOE Lead Developers Jon L. Davis and Rick Baker are currently working for Infinity Ward.
