MMOG's are big and have lots of different things that you can do in them other than just play the game. One of the many things that you can do is buy and sell things. There are lots of reasons to do such things. You don't need them, dont want them, short on cash, or you want to become a virtual millionaire. No matter what your angle is join or resident Runes of Magic player ZeroMerc as he delivers the basics of the Auction House.
Sadly there is no magic formula. Since every auction house is unique to its server each one is going to be different. A level 1 mana stone might go for 500g on my server and it might go for 5000g on your server. MMOG auction houses are a perfect example of capitalism.
