Curt Schilling gained fame and notoriety for his successful baseball career, but Schilling has also been building a name for himself in the gaming industry with the formation of 38 Studios. Despite the relatively limited information about 38 Studios' two projects, the MMORPG codenamed Project Copernicus and the recently renamed Project Mercury now called Kingdoms of Amalur: Reckoning, 38 Studios has still managed to stay high on the radar of gamers.
The MMO Gamer recently had the chance to interview Curt Schilling and learn a bit more about what led the baseball legend to enter the gaming industry and begin work on his own line of games. Schilling explains what drew him into online gaming and how it was not only fun, but it also provided a way for him to have social interactions without having to be Curt Schilling as going out in public likely resulted in a rush from fans seeking autographs. MMORPGs also gave Schilling a way to spend time with his family. This in combination with Schillings passion for gaming led him to form 38 Studios.
Probably the biggest thing for me as a parent, and as a person who has heard all the arguments for and against gaming, and violence, and all of that crap… if it wasn’t for MMOs, I would not have the relationship that I have with my kids.
Schilling goes on to explain what led him to form 38 Studios and some of the hard lessons he learned about the industry and offer his thoughts on a few good and bad games, citing Age of Conan, Tabula Rasa, and Plants vs Zombies to emphasize his point.
