Were you one of the unfortunate few who in their frenzy to install and
play Starcraft II who chose a name you have now come to regret?
Don’t feel to badly as you are most certainly not alone in
this mistake. More than a few people had no idea that the names they
were choosing would be forever linked to their Starcraft accounts. As
such many players are stuck with names they would rather not be
displayed to the general public.

Blizzard however has decided to come to the rescue and answer the cries
of the many players facing this situation and in a stroke of generosity
are offering a one time chance at a free name change in the near
future.

In some cases, people
chose character names that don't represent their
usual multiplayer nicknames, as they were unaware of how the character
names were being used. It's important to us that everyone is
represented by a name of their choosing in their multiplayer games,
ladders, and on the forums and community site.

So if you feel your name isn’t quite the face you
want to
show to the rest of the Starcraft world keep an eye out for the
upcoming name change and make it count because you will only get one
for free. However for those players who can’t seem to get it
right on the first or second try Blizzard will also begin offering a
name changing service for Starcraft II. This name changing service will
be  similar to the one offered for World of Warcraft and
players who choose to use it will be charged a small fee.

Personally, while I am more than happy with my Starcraft II user name,
I think it’s a great thing Blizzard is doing by offering
these free name changes to players that weren’t so lucky. I
wonder though after the first initial free name change how many people
will actually pay for another. I doubt that it will be as popular as
the name change feature in WoW, but I’ve been wrong before,
so we can only wait and see.

Will you be using the free name change? Would you consider paying for a
name change in Starcraft II? Join us on our forums and share your
thoughts. Or visit the href="http://us.battle.net/sc2/en/blog/572264" target="_blank">offical
Starcraft II page for more details.
