Battlestar Galactica Online developer Bigpoint made a pair of big announcements at GDC earlier today. Bigpoint, already working on an MMOG based on The Mummy, managed to grab the rights to develop the Universal Monsters online game. Previously announced as part of an agreement with Planet Michael developer SEE Virtual Worlds, Universal Monsters is a 3rd-person multiplayer action RPG based on Universal's gallery of classic monsters like Dracula, Frankenstein's Monster and many more.

But Bigpoint wasn't finished by simply securing the rights to develop another monster-based MMOG. The free-to-play publisher also revealed at GDC its first fully US developed MMOG called Ruined. Ruined is a is a fast-paced, tournament-style third-person shooter set in the ruined venues of San Francisco and pits players against each other to fight it out to become the ultimate villain.

“In under a year, our SF-based team has created an extraordinary browser game that nothing else in our segment can match,” said Heiko Hubertz, CEO and founder, Bigpoint. “We are excited to unleash this game and are confident that it will appeal strongly to American gamers who enjoy exotic weapons, rich graphics, and carnage. We are also looking forward to inviting gamers from all over the world into Ruined later this year.”

Ruined is currently in beta and will be available to select US players starting March 2nd. The European release of the game is planned for sometime this summer.

Update: The Universal Monsters game by SEE Virtual Worlds is a separate project and will be developed separate from the Bigpoint Universal Monsters game.
