Final Fantasy XIV (FFXIV) deployed its 1.16 update yesterday, introducing a host of new changes and the introduction of sidequests to the game. Like many other games, when a player can obtain a sidequest, an exclamation mark will appear over an NPC's head as well as at locations on the map and minimap. However, enemies defeated during these sidequests will not yield skill points, loot or experience.

Additionally, the sizes of certain enemies have been increased, making many much larger than they used to be. A new icon has also been added to easily identify hostile enemies to help wayward travelers avoid strolling into a pack of angry enemies ready to send them to an early grave. Of course, if you come across a creature called a Spinesnap Ogre, you probably won't need the identifier to know he's bad news. The full list of changes is available on the FFXIV Loadstone website.

In addition to the update, Square Enix announced that the official beta version of the FFXIV forums will launch on March 8th, 2011. The forums will be available in Japanese, English, French, and German languages.
