Star Wars: The Old Republic (SWTOR) has attracted almost 1.5 million people to be notified for an upcoming open beta test according to EA CFO Eric Brown. Gamasutra sat in on Brown's recent presentation at Lazard Capital Markets Technology & Media Day where the CFO discussed the high interest in the upcoming MMORPG. Brown estimated during the presentation that the North American MMO gaming market sits at around 12 million players, about half of which play Blizzard's World of Warcraft.

While Brown didn't reveal a great deal more about the game, we did learn that it will not be releasing during EA's first fiscal quarter, which will end in June. So if the game does launch this year, it will be during the second half, but as is the case with any MMORPG, we could be waiting until 2012 to see SWTOR.
