SOE is back from holiday vacation and that means it’s time to get back to work on PlanetSide 2. Matt Higby recently posted his first missive of the year to the PlanetSide 2 forums to lay out some of the big changes on the way for the game, which should help improve the combat game quite a bit.

The addition of tunnels should help encourage ground combat in bases over vehicle spam.

The update will include performance tweaks that should help lower end GPUs. One big item in the works relates to XP distribution and values. A new dynamic XP system is being implemented, which will make players with more kills on their current life worth more XP. Talk about painting a target on your forehead. Additional tweaks to XP distribution will also be made that will provide partial damage XP for vehicles, a better display of XP sources, and a rebalance of XP rewards for support tasks. Some other things you’ll be seeing include server transfer tokens, the addition of the new SMG weapon for all empires, base changes, AA improvements, a short invulnerability period for re-spawning players and more.
