John Smedley Serves Up a PlanetSide 2 Beta Update

Posted Thu, Sep 13, 2012 by Martuk

SOE boss John Smedley recently dropped by the PlanetSide 2 forums with an update of things to come.

Sony Online Entertainment CEO John Smedley paid a visit to the PlanetSide 2 forums this week to update the community on what’s in the works and what’s being considered as the shooter continues its march through beta. Smedley touched on several of the topics in the works such as changes to gunplay, certifications, resources, improvements to game performance and the work progress on the continents of Esamir and Amerish. Smed does note that due to the time it’s taking to work on the continents, PlanetSide 2 may launch with 2 with the third to follow post-launch. Time and testing will tell.

"We also are working hard on Esamir. It's getting closer and closer to a finished state where we want you guys to play on it. It's pretty awesome and very different gameplay wise than Indar. After that Amerish will go back to being worked on. These continents are taking longer than we expected and it's possible we end up launching with two and delivering the 3rd shortly after launch. We're working super hard but we have some resource bottlenecks. We also are going to see how the game plays with two continents before making any final decisions, so please do us a favor and don't judge any of this before you play the game with two. Too many people knee jerk react to things. There's no point. Just wait till Esamir is live and let's all see how it goes. We are showing with Planetside 2 a strong dedication to launching this game when it's ready, and not before. But that also means we need you as our playerbase to understand that this is like riding a wave that we have an idea where it's going but aren't precisely sure."

Smedley also explains that Matt Higby and crew will be discussing the possibility of adding base ownership benefits and the prospect of continent locking, which it’s important to note is just being discussed and not set in stone.

You can read Smedley’s post in its entirety on the PlanetSide 2 forums for all the details.

SoE has a large stable of MMO's and all of them put together won't make a decent game. Why? As long as they continue having this clown Smedley as Boss, any game they already have or will get, will go down the drain as we've all seen in the past.

You can't believe anything he says, you can't trust him. And any game he gets his grubby, stinking hands on, he'll destroy. This isn't just me saying it, it's his track record, his well earned reputation.

Every long time gamer knows about this Bozo.
