Runes of Magic - A Quick Guide to the Knight

Posted April 8th, 2009 by Ralsu

Meet the Tank in Runes of Magic

The knight dons plate mail to confront the toughest foes.

The true tank in Runes of Magic, and the only class that can wear plate, is the knight. A knight's skills include ways to generate hate and holy-themed damage abilities that consume mana. As a primary class, the knight provides players with the tools to tank the toughest foes and be a real leader for any group. As a secondary class, the knight offers some skills useful for off-tanks and some passive skills that could help almost any class.

Official Background

Thanks to their militaristic education, knights can wield massive armor and use heavy weaponry.

They master every fighting skill, though their real strength lies in their deep faith. This allows them to call out the hidden powers of the light within the souls of every human.

With this faith, boisterous combat power and their iron willpower, knights build up immense walls to protect everything that is holy to them.

Traditional adventurers, which hold their profession higher than their own person, are drawn toward the life of a knight due to his strict Code of Honor.

Official Description

Knights are the heaviest armored class in the game; actually the only one that can wear plate armor. Through their power of light they have access to abilities that can send their opponents to the ground.

They are one of the few classes that dare to throw themselves against the mightiest of monsters.

With their special light-based attacks and shield abilities, knights fight their enemies effectively and draw their hatred over themselves.

The knight is a very attractive Dual Class option.

Dual Classing the Knight

For Knight as the Primary Class

First identify what role you want to play. If you want to be the main tank on every raid, consider warrior as your secondary class. The hit point gains will transfer over to give you the beefiest combo possible, and the skills will supply you with a few damage options to help hold aggro. Having two different power pools (mana for the knight and rage for the warrior) will give you more options, too.

If you want to be strong enough to tank in most group play, consider using priest or mage as a secondary. Both contribute slightly to your magic defense, and the priest gives you access to a few heals spells you can use to supplement your healer. Meanwhile, the mage opens up a few damage skills (albeit inefficient ones in the damage-to-mana ratio) to help generate aggro. Be aware of your mana usage as these secondary classes pull from the same source of energy as your primary skills.

Choosing the rogue as a secondary class allows your knight to dual wield 1H weapons to deal more damage. This is a fine option for solo and casual group play. Just be aware of what the loss of your shield means to your defense. The secondary skills of the rogue add light damage over time and some debuffs.

Finally, the scout's secondary skills offer a lot of versatility but may be hard to fit into your role as a front line fighter. Having to trade out your knight weapons for a bow in the heat of battle is not convenient.

For Knight as the Secondary Class

The knight has the highest gain in all statistics at level up, meaning it provides the best 10% bonus of attributes among all classes. This makes the knight a decent choice for almost any class. The knight can increase the off-tanking abilities of the warrior by adding the Holy Strike skill, which adds aggro with each hit. It gives a noticeable HP boost to rogues and scouts and provides a defense debuff in the form of Disarmament. The knight's passive skills translate well to almost any class, but they can be especially effective for priests and mages. Resilience adds stamina to generate HP, and Devotion increases mana pools passively.
