Star Trek Online Executive Producer Stephen D'Angelo has posted his second Star Trek Online “Path to F2P” dev blog detailing some new features aimed at making your life a little easier. The new changes should make grouping and mission grinding a little less painful.

Getting lost in a sea of missions was not an uncommon thing to do when Star Trek Online launched last year, but Cryptic has revisited a few parts of the game for the upcoming free-to-play launch and this week players can get a glimpse at some of the new changes when they hit the new Tribble server. The team has made some improvements to the mission journal, which will make finding what you should be doing next a lot easier. If you’ve finished a mission, there’s even a handy new button that can get you where you need to go. Additionally, Cryptic is also adding a queued PvE content option to help get groups for content and a new events option that they’ll be revealing more on later.

If you would like to help test out the new free-to-play changes on Tribble, Cryptic also plans to give Star Trek Online players that help a few rewards for their characters based on what they manage to accomplish.

As a bonus, within the three weeks following when the F2P build is live, we'll be giving out awards to your character on Holodeck based on what you accomplished on Tribble. If you get a Federation character from start to level 11, we'll give you a free 8 hour XP boost item. If you get to level 31, we'll give you a reasonably large chunk of dilithium (exactly how much depends a bit on how the economy tunes up in testing, but this will be a meaningful award). And if you get a character to level 51, we'll give you a bonus ship slot and a unique title that only the most elite Tribblers will have. This award only applies to Federation characters that freshly started on Tribble. It does not apply to characters that transfer in once we open up character transfer.
