Just before heading out for the holidays, BioWare posted a new press release that reveals some impressive numbers for Star Wars: The Old Republic’s (SWTOR) first week of launch. According to the release, more than one million players have registered their accounts since the game launched on December 20th, making it one of the largest subscription launches in MMORPG history.

Since the game’s launch, over 3.8 million characters have been created of which roughly 510,000 are Jedi Knights and 550,000 are Sith Warriors. Over 28 million in-game hours have been played and over 2 billion NPCs have met their end since Early Game Access began on December 13th.

SWTOR is certainly off to a good start. Now we’ll have to see if they can keep up that momentum and avoid the usual MMORPG drop-off that usually tends to happen after the first month.
