SWTOR Dev Blog Details Planet Makeb

Posted Fri, Mar 08, 2013 by Martuk

Star Wars: The Old Republic (SWTOR) gets its first expansion later this year with Rise of the Hutt Cartel. The new digital expansion will add a new planet to the SWTOR universe known as Makeb, a seedy disaster world filled with conflict fueled by the Hutt Cartel.

In a new developer dispatch, Lead Writer Charles Boyd offers some insight into the design of Makeb, the success that the republic has had on the planet, the Hutt Cartel’s role in the conflict, and how the empire is adjusting to the situation.

The Hutts give us an opportunity to reinforce just how fragile the balance of power has become due to the ongoing war between the Republic and the Empire. The entire galaxy seems like it’s up for grabs at this point, and it was only a matter of time before a wealthy and powerful entity like the Hutts decided to make their own bid for control.

Boyd didn’t explain why Makeb was the planet that the Hutts decided to make their move on as it would “be giving too much away”, but he does reveal a few more tidbits about the planet and the ongoing conflict between the three factions.
