Exteel is a free-to-play MMOG from the developers at NCsoft that features participants battling it out inside of huge Mechanaughts, robotic shells that are controlled by human pilots. At the beginning of the game, you'll create a Mechanaught pilot who will advance in ranks and skills like the avatar in any other MMOG. The Mechanaught's you control are also customizable, as you can switch out weapons and other parts to create a machine that is completely under your control.

With these Mechanaughts and their pilots, players will fight in four modes: Death Match, Team Death Match, Territory Control, or Last Stand. Functioning similarly to an FPS, Exteel hopes to create a competitive environment between players on their servers. To generate income, NCsoft is using a micro-payment business model. Players will be able to purchase more powerful weapons, skills, and parts for your Mechanaught. The list of skills, weapons, and parts is extensive, so players will be able to customize their Mechanaught however they see fit. A ranking system is also included in the game.

On July 27th, 2010 NCsoft announced that the Exteel servers will be shutting down permanently. On September 1st, 2010, Exteel officially shut down citing the franchise as no longer financially viable.
