Darkfall: Unholy Wars + World of Warcraft

  • WoW's expansion rate: wow or blah?

With the first expansion to the World of Warcraft due on shelves just after Christmas, we look at the expansion rate of WoW so far. Has it been worth the wait for what has changed? Does the pace of change not measure up to expectations?

The second of the questions above is a bit trickier, how has the community responded to this rate of change. It’s trickier because it depends who you talk to. If you ask a raider, they are probably fairly happy since they are still working their way through Ahn’Qiraj and Naxxramas. There are a few guilds that have defeated these raids, but they are few and far between. If you ask a PvP’er they may or may not be happy depending on which one you ask. If you ask an average player they are probably not very happy since most of the content added has been for the raiding and pvp crowd.

  • TenTonHammer's First Look at World PvP in the Burning Crusade

Everyone wants to know what is in store for them with the new world PvP system in the Burning Crusade. Will it make a difference? Will it be used? Is it fun? Read on to find out...

I think that these changes could make for some very interesting guild dynamics and / or mergers. With many worried about their place in a guild now that raids will only require 25 people, this may provide space in a guild for additional players. It will also help provide a place for PvP and Raiding in the same guild. I can imagine coordination either with another guild or another element of the same guild to go and capture a PvP element to help with a raid. The PvP’ers would have to capture the world PvP element in a specific zone at a specific time to coordinate with a guild raid going on to give that guild an edge in the raid. This could be critical for things such as first attempts or speed runs though a raid or instance.

  • TenTonHammer looks at early loot in The Burning Crusade

Interested in what kind of loot you can get in the first few days of the Burning Crusades release? Want to know where to find it? Check it all out here!

As mentioned in many places previously, the biggest change that you will see when going to BC loot is the insane stamina bonuses. I have seen a +60 stamina green item, and +40ish isn't that rare either! There are several items that you will be trading in very quickly from your tier 1 and 2 sets. There are even many blues from the old 5 man instances that could be replaced quickly with greens!

  • Rogue Guide Updated

Our Rogue guide has gotten a massive update, both in its organization and its information. We've gone through and made sure our massive amount of information is easy accessible. Not only that, but we've overhauled our Rogue getting started guide with a ton of new information!

"So in summary, the Rogue class is your fast attacking high damage output class with very low-defense. Their damage isn't limited to mana, like a Mage, which is an obvious advantage. Simple "white damage" (normal attacks) from a Rogue can be deadly by itself!"

  • Top of the Totem Pole – Scorekeeping in WoW

Scorekeeping has come a long way from the numerical high scores of arcade games in the past. This article takes a look at how players can prove that they are the best in today's MMORPGs, such as WoW.

“When I think of scoreboarding, my first thought is of arcade games--you know, those high scores at the end that allowed you to put in your initials so that everyone who came to play the game after you left could see just how great DJW or ADI was. Gaming has come a long way since those Pacman days in the local pool hall.”

  • TenTonHammer's First Look at "The Burning Crusade: The Underbog"

Today I continue our first look at the upcoming World of Warcraft expansion, The Burning Crusade. Once again I am focusing on the new instance in the game since small group adventures are one of my favorite things about MMOs. So far I have covered the Hellfire Ramparts and the Blood Furnace in the Hellfire Citadel and the Slave Pens in the Coilfang Reservoir. Today I once again head to Coilfang Reservoir in Zangarmarsh, but this time to visit the Underbog. The Underbog is the second of the four instance in Coilfang Reservoir in Zangarmarsh.

The Fen Rays were very cool because they had an ability called terror. It worked almost exactly like fear, except you ran away faster than a fun (seemed like epic mounted speed) and it seemed like it was not avoidable. I tried trinkets and abilities to avoid and negate fear and they did not work. This got really fun since the first one terrored one of the group into a second, which did it into a third. This left us scrambling to survive having 1-3 members running at all times. The lesson here: remember to pull far back. In this case pull back further than normal since you can run quite far at that speed.

  • Hands On Impressions of Burning Crusade

Pro-G has posted their hands on impressions of the Burning Crusades. Keep reading to see what they think of the upcoming expansion to World of Warcraft.

The Burning Crusade presents an interesting conundrum for World of Warcraft players: drop your existing high level character for the allure of starting one of two new races, or keep on with your uber-equipped killing machine and brave the shattered realm of Outland.

So far, most beta players have opted for the high level rewards of Outland over starting a new character. But this isn't to the detriment of TBC's two new races, the manga-esque Blood Elves and the big blue aliens the Draenei - both have aspects that have drawn concern from the typically vocal WoW fan base, but overall are shaping up nicely.
