Darkfall is a fantasy-based MMOG developed by Aventurine S.A., a studio based out of Greece. Originally conceived by a company called Razorwax based out of Norway, Aventurine S.A. and Razorwax eventually merged into one company.

Combining real-time strategy and action to the standard features of the MMOG genre, Darkfall features PvP and massive PvP battles, including horseback and naval battles. Victories are documented for posterity and success is measured so that there is never a question as to what really happened. There are no safe zones and all you have to protect you is skill and the people you have watching your back. Anyone can fight anywhere, but be prepared to face the consequences. When killed, players drop lootable items. Diplomacy, politics, trade agreements and even a legal system are all supported by the game.

Players can choose from one of the six available races. The class system does not conform to the traditional MMOG model and allows players to simply customize their avatar to be what they want.

In September 2012, Adventurine announced Darkfall: Unholy Wars, a complete redesign of Darkfall featuring new art, more features and a host of improvement that include a seamless open world, massive land and naval PvP battles, flexible roles, lootable players and more. Characters from the previous Darkfall version will not be carried over, so it will be a fresh start for everyone. Darkfall: Unholy Wars is scheduled to launch on December 12th, 2012.
