Darkfall is a fantasy-based MMOG developed by Aventurine S.A., a studio based out of Greece. Originally conceived by a company called Razorwax based out of Norway, Aventurine S.A. and Razorwax eventually merged into one company.

Combining real-time strategy and action to the standard features of the MMOG genre, Darkfall features PvP and massive PvP battles, including horseback and naval battles. Victories are documented for posterity and success is measured so that there is never a question as to what really happened. There are no safe zones and all you have to protect you is skill and the people you have watching your back. Anyone can fight anywhere, but be prepared to face the consequences. When killed, players drop lootable items. Diplomacy, politics, trade agreements and even a legal system are all supported by the game.

Players can choose from one of the six available races. The class system does not conform to the traditional MMOG model and allows players to simply customize their avatar to be what they want.

In September 2012, Adventurine announced Darkfall: Unholy Wars, a complete redesign of Darkfall featuring new art, more features and a host of improvement that include a seamless open world, massive land and naval PvP battles, flexible roles, lootable players and more. Characters from the previous Darkfall version will not be carried over, so it will be a fresh start for everyone. Darkfall: Unholy Wars is scheduled to launch on December 12th, 2012.

  • Darkfall Journal #4: Odds & Ends

WarCry has posted another in the continuing series of Darkfall developer journals.

It has been a month since the last journal, with GDC and all that. Darkfall didn't go to the GDC this year, due to brutal development schedules and deadlines. There were a few business meetings however which took place there on its behalf.

There were a few things that we wanted to talk about, so I'll just cram them all into this journal.

  • Darkfall Developer Journal: Part 1

Each week on Darkfall WarCry, Tasos Flambouras, Associate Producer of Darkfall, will be posting a journal, discussing and illuminating the development process and decisions along the road to completion.

Our unofficial tagline and battle cry for Darkfall development is “No compromise”. We've had vertical slices of the game before, and we considered moving towards a launch a couple of years ago. We didn't go forward because, to put it simply, we all knew we could do so much better if we gave it more time, and we had the resources to do so. I believe that the resulting game can stand up to any MMO out there and it's much more than the game we originally committed to making.

  • Set in the world of Agon, Aventurine's PvP-oriented massively multiplayer title with a skill-based character system

RPG Vault has posted this second look at Darkfall. Don't miss a thing, keep reading to learn more.

Darkfall is a persistent state endeavor featuring a clearly stated emphasis on PvP combat. Initially announced some years ago by a small Norwegian team, Razorwax, that was subsequently acquired by a Greek company, Aventurine, it will take place in an original fantasy-themed world called Agon. The underlying premise involves six races seeking to find and control artifacts known as word-stones that furnish wealth and power.

  • A Look at Dwarves

RPG Vault has the next peek at the upcoming Darkfall. This peek gives us a look at Dwarves. Included in the write up are also three new screenshots.

    The Dwarves of Dvergheim

Like axe-bristling avalanches, dwarven legions surge across Agon's battlefields, neither wavering nor resting until victory is secured. At any stage in any battle, no matter how ridiculous the odds may be, dwarves believe - with unblinking certainty - that they will prevail through superior skill, rock-hewn strength and indomitable bravery.
