Age of Conan: Unchained + Age of Armor

  • Four New Screenshots

The official site for Age of Conan has been updated this morning with four new screenshots.

One of the things that we are really proud of in Age of Conan is the visual diversity that the development team has managed to deliver. This is particularly evident when looking at the different landscapes of Hyboria that is realized in this game, from the snow-capped mountains of Cimmeria to the burning deserts of Stygia. And everything in between!

  • GDC Look At Age of Conan

GamersInfo updated their site with a look at Age of Conan. Keep reading to see what they think of this upcoming MMO.

It's odd the little things you notice in a game. After Funcom representative Jorgen Theraldssen picked himself up from the shore and stumbled into the village, I noticed color. In this primitive, basic world were bright aqua greens from the water; vivid purples in the flowers on the ground; intense reds in the buds dropping from the trees. The world could easily have been done in earth tone hues only, but the artists gave it life.

  • Age of Conan - Hyborian Adventures Second View

RPG Vault takes another look at this upcoming Funcom game.

There will also be three levels of PvP once you meet up with the other players after the singleplayer introduction. You've got drunken brawling (the most basic PvP, but very fun sounding with staggering drunks and everything), arena fights (gladiatorial combat bouts), and guild PvP (guild versus guild battles). You'll also be able to create your own PvP matches if you want.

  • Developer Blog Update

The official site for Age of Conan has been updated this morning with a note pointing us to the new Developer Blog at 1UP.com.

So what is cooking in the pot these days? Well, we just had some guys over at GDC in the US to show off the latest build. One thing which we haven't shown publicly before is the blood & gore aspect of Conan: fatalities and dismemberment. If you kill an opponent using a combo, you have a chance of dealing a more brutal and bloody death or possibly chop off a head or arm instead if that is more your fancy.

  • Going for the Throat

Funcom has made it clear that they are shooting for an "M" rating for their upcoming title, Age of Conan. However, they want to push those boundaries as far as possible without hitting the dreaded AO (Adults Only) designation. In her article, Awen looks at what could make it an "adult only" game and what being made for a "mature" audience means.

At the upper level, it doesn't seem to make much of a difference. But, with that said, the deeper you delve into the problem, the more you realize that suddenly the game isn't what Funcom wanted to create. It's not the game that the fans of the Conan franchise want to see. They'll stay within the strictures, but in the end should we worry about the loss of the essence of the games?

  • The Rest of the GDC Age of Conan Preview!

We've been hard at work listening to our voice recorders and transcribing the events that occurred at our GDC Age of Conan demo, and now the rest of the extensive Age of Conan preview is ready to read. Rather than preparing a video or giving us a demonstration on a closed server, Jorgen Tharaldsen, Conan's Product Director, and Designer Thor Bjorno loaded a character onto a running server where a few hundred closed beta testers were churning through the developed content, pointing out any errors or inconsistencies with the gameplay. Over the span of two days, a pair of sessions, and three hours of actual discussions, Jorgen and I hashed out some things that hadn't been extensively discussed on the website. The rest of the preview includes a look at AI, PvP, seige warfare, quests, and more!

"You can't just charge into the camp," Jorgen said as he walked his character around. "If you do, the guards at the front of the camp will alert those in the back, spawning more guards and bringing them all down upon you at once. You can achieve your goal this way, but there are other ways to achieve this goal: You can poison the food source, you can use the day night cycle to your advantage, you can even set their tents on fire. We made the camps unpredictable, so players won't be able to simply saunter in and do the same thing their friend just did."

  • Thoughts on Age of Conan From GDC

MMORPG.com updated their site today with their thoughts on the upcoming Age of Conan. They had a chance to get a look at it at GDC.

There is a very strong interface in the game for players to build social networks. The system to find groups or guilds is easily accessible in the game. Instead of players having to type out in chat, using the social interface allows players to form and shape the community in the game itself.

  • A Look at Age of Conan

GameZone has updated their site over the weekend with a new preview of Age of Conan.

During the demonstration, a Stygian zone was revealed as well as a quest. In the quest, a villager was dismayed because he had just lost his wife.

“It is the will of the gods,” was the Stygian player avatar’s retort. But the villager pleads and the quest in undertaken to find the alligator that ate the wife, slay the beast, cut it open and bring the remains of the woman back to the villager.
