    Chronicles of Spellborn Comes Out

Every once in awhile, a game and their development company will go into "blackout mode" and not talk to the press for a certain period of time. This is what happened with The Chronicles of Spellborn and the U.S. press; it's been awhile since we heard from them, but now we've got the scoop on what's happening with this amazing game few people have heard of. Ten Ton Hammer's Garrett Fuller brings you the entire story in his latest article!

What's an MMO without the grind?

1UP.com has updated their site with this look at the upcoming Chronicles of Spellborn. Keep reading to learn what they think.

The battle system in Spellborn also strays from the beaten MMO path. Instead of the usual auto-targeting and skills system of most MMORPGs out there, Spellborn is going with a more action-oriented approach. A player's attacks won't automatically land just because that enemy boar is targeted.

Blasting magic at MMORPG convention. We hope it works

IGN has posted their impressions of the upcoming Chronicles of Spellborn.

Spellborn tries to further distance itself from the standard MMORPG mold by stripping armor and weaponry of statistics. Modifications, called sigils, can eventually be affixed for bonuses as you level up to the cap of 50, but otherwise aesthetics are the only reason to discriminate between armor pieces.

More is just a click away!

    Into the Fog of Ringfell

RPG Vault has another in their series of peeks at Chronicles of Spellborn. This one includes five new screenshots that shouldn't be missed.

In this series of articles, we are taking an in-depth look at the world of The Chronicles of Spellborn. Players are part of a civilization struggling for survival after the destruction of their world. What is left are the hollow rock-realms known as shards, floating in the magical Deadspell Storm. Each of these shards offers a unique set of themed environments, dungeons and creatures. In this fifth and final episode, we explore the areas that lie deeper within the shard, hidden beneath a thick fog.

"Make it fun, and make it fun for all player levels." That's all I need to hear to at least give a new MMO a try! There is no such thing as too much fun and from what IGN says in their Preview It definately looks good enough.

Being careful not to tread on the traditional fantasy territory already established so well by WoW, EverQuest and the like, CoS takes place in a very imaginative fantasy environment populated by planetoids whirling through the Deadspell Storm. The planetoids, or "shards," are the remnants of an empire controlled by eight demons, and you'll start out with access to a couple of those. But before you do that, you'll be designing your character. And interestingly, your outfit has no connection to your abilities.

The Spellborn beta is born, and MMORPG.com captures the moment
One of the first in the next wave of fantasy MMORPGs due out next year, Chronicles of Spellborn garners its fair share of hype. MMORPG.com boasts an excellent preview of the game:

More and more MMORPGs are coming on the market in the next year. Some will be a standard version of everything you have seen before. The Chronicles of Spellborn plans to break the mold of a typical MMORPG and take the genre into a new exciting direction. With stunning visuals the game presents a wonderful look to its respective players. With the world gone and only shards remaining after its destruction the travel aspect and looks of the realm are very unique. Spellborn also presents a change to game play by building the game on skills, not loot. With these two elements in mind the game also features plenty of options for both PvE and PvP oriented players. Spellborn also keeps a very close tab on their community and the growing appeal of MMORPGs to gamers. In a genre of grinding, looting, and endless hours of play, the Chronicles of Spellborn offers something different to the players. The game mantra, “What Lies Hidden Must be found,” gives players a chance to drive the storyline as well as their own character development.

And if you applied for beta, an invite might be hidden in your email inbox, so go find it! The Chronicles of Spellborn preview at MMORPG.com

    A Pokemon MMOG?
"The Chronicles of Spellborn," a new MMOG slated to be released in the first half of 2006, will reportedly use a deck system to build a character's fighting style. Froclicking, card-wielding grade-schoolers and parents sucked dry of allowance money were heard to chant in unison:

"Players will be able to interact with each other in an original fantasy setting, experienced through a unique graphics style. Players can fight with or against each other, forge alliances and control parts of the world.
The players’ strength is not determined by the sword that he or she wields, but by the skill with which it is wielded. This is one of the things that allows players to create varying but recognizable identities for their characters. In addition, players are free to use a wide variety of faces, clothes, armors and symbols to customize their characters in the game."
