Wurm Online, from Onetwofree AB, is a free to play MMORPG. It is, first, unusual because the game is run on a Java platform. Secondly, the game is completely shaped by the players. Buildings, towns, roads, items--all can be created by your character. The world is yours to mold. Characters are led by their skills and skills are only increased by practice. Chopping wood will increase your wood chopping skill, just as fighting a helpless animal will increase your fighting skill.

There are two servers currently available. The Freedom PvE cluster allows players to play free of other hostile players, while the Epic PvP cluster offers a more competitive environment. Players can transfer between the two clusters at any time, but skills and items do not transfer. The will, however, remain intact on the home cluster.

Wurm Online is free-to-play but premium membership accounts are available for players that would like to access additional content and high level skills.
