MMORPG.com has posted an interview with Sean Burgoon and Shayne Herrera.
I continued my questioning, asking if they really thought this would take off. "Artists have a strong sense of community," Shayne responded. "We wanted to give to the community and see what they give back."

  • Ask the Devs

WarCry has updated their City of Heroes page with a new question and answer with Serdar "Lord Recluse" Copur.

GreenLantern: Hi, Serdar! I spend most of my time in Paragon City, but I have a few characters in the Rogue Isles. A common complaint is that the CoV characters don't feel "evil" enough in their missions. What are your thoughts on that?

Serdar Copur: This is a concern that gets a lot of attention internally. We put a great deal of value on immersion. We also have to keep in mind the difference between real evil and comic book evil.

  • Issue 9 "Breakthrough" Preview

KillerBetties weighs in with their thoughts on the upcoming Issue 9 for City of Heroes!

In order to use the invention system you'll need both salvage and influence. Salvage you get from beating down enemies and it comes in one of three variations: Common, Uncommon, and Rare. Obviously, Common will drop the most and be your default salvage, with Uncommon showing up a little less frequently under all that, and Rare being the ultimate salvage since it will be the hardest of all to find

  • GDC: City Of Heroes/Villains Issue 9 Impressions

FiringSquad has posted their impressions of the upcoming Issue 9 for the City of Heroes / City of Villains game.

In addition to the invention feature, Issue 9 will also contain the games' version of an auction house where players will be able to buy and sell items to other players. In keeping with the games' fictional moral tone, City of Heroes players can only trade with fellow City of Heroes players and the same is true for City of Villains players.

  • Lead designer of upcoming free content download for City of Heroes fills GameShark in on what's next for this popular MMORPG.

GameShark.com has posted a look at the upcoming Issue 9 for City of Heroes.

The Lord Recluse Strike Force, which made it into Issue 7, was our way of getting Hamidon-level Enhancements into the hands of the Villains for City of Villains. We needed something that was difficult, and Hamidon-level difficult, but we didn’t want to just regurgitate Hamidon…we wanted something cool. We wanted something where you fought the signature Heroes of the City of Heroes franchise.

  • City of Heroes Interview

Strategy Informer has updated their site with an interview with Matt Miller. Keep reading to see what they were able to learn about City of Heroes.

NCsoft: What made you use the name “Breakthrough” to describe the free expansion?

Matt Miller: Several reasons. First, it shows off the invention system by declaring a scientific breakthrough in getting better Enhancements into the hands of Heroes and Villains. Next, we have Hamidon breaking through in another part of the world, and finally we have the Heroes breaking through the Rogue Isle defenses in Statesman’s Task Force.

  • City of Heroes & Villains Interview: Issue 9

Boomtown has updated their site today with an interview with Matt “Positron” Miller. This interview takes a look at the upcoming Issue 9.

Q: Obviously crafting has become a major part of MMOs. Tell us what the Invention system will offer players?

A: Since the “City of” games never had a crafting system or hard “loot” of any kind, we are kind of easing our playerbase into the concept. What you won’t find is a hard core crafting system that you must min-max numbers in for weeks to make the best “product”. What you will find is a fun new way to gain Enhancements, and Enhancements you actually desire. In addition, you can collect various “sets” of Enhancements which slot into specific powers.

  • Jack Emmert Community Q&A #2

MMORPG.com has the second part of their Q&A with Jack Emmert, head of Cryptic Studios, posted today.

MMORPG.com (Techleo): What are your impressions of Issue 8? Would you like to see more variety in Mission goal-types than saving hostages, blasting a baddy, or searching for stuff?

Jack Emmert: Like to? Sure! New mission types take time to design, code, then implement. We’re always working on new twists and turns. I7 brought villain players the joy of Mayhem missions while I8 provided heroes with the challenge of Safeguard missions. Each brought some new stuff into play. So rest assured, we’ll keep delivering fresh, innovative content.
