  • Chinese Government steps up 'anti-gaming' measures

    Spong.com has posted a report on efforts being taken by China's already anti gaming government to take restrictions even further.

    You might not be aware of this, but the ever-autocratic Chinese government has had a system in place since last August preventing individuals from playing online games for more than three consecutive hours.

    The system, by law, is installed in every online game in the country. It works by cutting the ability level of a player's online game character by half after he or she has played for more than three consecutive hours. After five consecutive hours of play, the system cuts the ability level of that player's character to the lowest level allowed by the game. Players have to log off for a minimum of five hours before the system resets.

  • Now You Can Move Your Character...For A Fee...

    This announcement was posted on the official World of Warcraft site...

    We are happy to announce the availability of the Paid Character Transfer service for World of Warcraft. You can find this feature in the account-management section of the official World of Warcraft website. This new functionality will allow you to transfer characters to other realms (within certain restrictions) in order to join friends and family or make new friends and allies. Learn more about this new feature in our Paid Character Transfer FAQ.

    The initial launch of the Paid Character Transfer service will only allow transfers between a limited set of realms. You can now transfer characters off of these realms:

    * Altar of Storms
    * Argent Dawn
    * Demon Soul
    * Illidan
    * Warsong

    We'll gradually scale up the list of realms to accommodate more players as quickly as possible. To start transferring your characters, just log in to the account-management section and click the Paid Character Transfer button. Good luck in your continued adventures in Azeroth, and have fun on your new realm!

    Please note that because it is tied into the account-management section, the Paid Character Transfer service may be unavailable during the regularly scheduled weekly maintenance.

    Head over to the World of Warcraft site for more information.

  • Rick Schmitz Dev Diary - Various Valuable and Unlabelled Things

    Find out what The Lord of the Rings Online's Lead Content Support Artist, Rick Scmitz, has to say in his updated Dev Diary...

    Hello there! Rick "October" Schmitz here!

    I'm the Lead Content Support Artist on The Lord of the Rings Online™: Shadows of Angmar™ (LOTRO). You may be wondering, "What the heck kind of title is that?" Well, it's the sort of title you get when you're crazy enough to work with Content folks and Artists.

    While the majority of the LOTRO Art team is toiling away on all sorts of things you might expect to find in a game based on J.R.R. Tolkien's amazing books (like Orcs, Dwarves, Rivendell, hobbit holes and so on), the Content Support team makes some of the unexpected items that the Content folks dream up along the way.

  • Cross server battlegrounds, when death-coiling the locals just isn't enough any more.
    Blizzard has thrown up their look ahead to Patch 1.12 for World of Warcraft. Also in the works are a rogue revamp, hopefully changing the many typos of rouge to rogue automatically and World PvP.

    " For the first time in the history of World of Warcraft, you will be able to face off against players from other realms in the Battlegrounds. Coming in patch 1.12 are cross-realm PvP Battlegrounds, linking Alterac Valley, Warsong Gulch, and Arathi Basin so that players from several realms will be combined into one huge matchmaking pool. Replenish your mana, sharpen your blades, and get ready for some brand-new challengers! "

  • Make Your Character All It Can Be With Traits...

    On the Lord of the Rings Online Site today, the trait system was unveiled and explained. Taking more steps to let you make your character unique is always good...

    In The Lord of the Rings Online™: Shadows of Angmar™, a Trait is an interchangeable ability that alters your character in some fashion. Traits allow a great deal of skills customization, so two characters of the same class and the same level can still be significantly different from each other depending on how their players have used Traits to modify their character's skills.

  • The Empire Strikes Back

    Blizzard developers on the World of Warcraft forums are saying that there are no "announced" plans to do additional Blizzard MMORPGs based on the Diablo and Starcraft franchises, and rumors are blatantly untrue.

    "I believe this [rumour] was a misquote," said Drysc. "We haven't announced any specific development plans beyond the upcoming expansion for World of Warcraft,
    and we don't have any intentions to focus on only one genre or platform with our future games."

    "Nothing in that rumour is true in regards to Blizzard," added EnoYls. "If I had to guess, there was some confusion between what Vivendi has planned for its its game division versus what Blizzard has planned. While Blizzard is owned by Vivendi, their game division operates separately from Blizzard."

    So Vivendi owns Blizzard, Blizzard is the number one cash cow, yet Vivendi takes nothing more than a philosophical interest in Blizzard's plans. Yea, ok.

    In any case, Boomtown has the scoop of Blizzard's case of denial.
