More on Ten Ton Hammer

9Dragons is the first authentic martial arts massively multiplayer online role-playing game. That means you shall not be alone in The Land — you shall journey alongside many friends, enemies, teachers and fellow disciples. The Land itself will be constantly evolving around you as new cities, quests, and special events are continuously added and updated. To help you immerse yourself in the true spirit of The Land, the design team has paid meticulous attention to the period authenticity of all the available cities, weapons, moves, costumes and locations used in 9Dragons.

In 9Dragons, players are allowed to join various sects of martial artists and are separated into two major factions: The White Clans (loyal to the Imperial Emperor) and The Black Clans (who bear him no allegiance). The White Clans include the Shaolin (male disciples only), Wu-Tang Clan, and The League of Beggars, and an advanced User-based Clan called The Disciples of Iron Fist. The Black Clans include the Sacred Flower (female disciples only), The Brotherhood of Thieves, and Heavenly Demon Clan, and an advanced User-based Clan called Black Dragon. Each Clan has its own requirements for admission.

You will enter the game in the streets of China during the Meng Dynasty. Characters will need to eat, drink, lodge, meditate and learn Kung Fu. After training, players will need to seek out and join one of the nine clans. The nine clans portrayed in the game are based off of actual historical clans to add a touch of historic realism to the game. Once you join a clan, you will seek out the secrets of the lost Nine Dragons.

9Dragons generates revenue through in-game ads and an item mall.

    A Look at 9Dragons

WarCry has posted a look at the upcoming 9Dragons.

9Dragons will make money in two ways. The first is the item mall. Unlike most games that require a monthly fee, anyone can download and play 9Dragons free of charge. The company makes money by selling extras in their item mall. These things range from customization tweaks to a "premium service" account that gives players 30 days of XP boosts.

    Fists and Feet of Fury

As Acclaim's 9Dragons nears release and finishes up the last few weeks of open beta, players are flocking to the test servers in droves. Cody "Micajah" Bye visits the world of 9Dragons, spends some time with the clans, and learns just how much mouse-clicking is involved in balancing your Chi. All this and more inside the 9Dragons preview!

Honestly, who could resist an organization that calls their club the Heavenly Demons? In my mind, the Demons would be riding choppers and sporting waist length beards while karate chopping their opponents. But alas, this was not the case. I appeared in the starting area with no gnarly hog…

    An early Look

GameDaily.com posted a preview of 9Dragons today. Keep reading to see what they thought...

Players create their "peasant" (male or female) via a rather uninspired character creation system, with only eight faces, seven hairstyles (with a choice of black, brown or white) and three costumes to choose from. Apparently, characters can change their appearance in the game, as noted by several nicely outfitted avatars.

    Steven-Elliot Altman Talks About 9Dragons

MMORPG.com has posted an interview with 9Dragons lead writer and loremaster, Steven-Elliot Altman.

Garrett Fuller quizes the man whose responsible for adapting 9Dragons to a Western audience. Here is the official brief on Altman: "Steven-Elliot Altman, best-selling author and Hollywood screenwriter, is the lead writer and loremaster of 9Dragons, the first authentic martial arts massively multiplayer online game. Think of the world of Hero,
House of the Flying Daggers, Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon or even Jackie Chan's classic Drunken Master. In 9Dragons you can rise from a beggar on the streets to become a master of martial arts as you train with some of the greatest masters of ancient China."

MMORPG.com: How historically accurate will 9Dragons be? What liberties will be taken to keep 9Dragons a long running MMO?

Get clicking to see the answer to this and many more questions. Are you looking forward to playing 9Dragons? Share your thoughts with us today in the Ten Ton Hammer Forums.

A new developer journal from the guys bringing 9Dragons to the West

MMORPG.com has posted the latest in their series of developer journals for the upcoming 9 Dragons. This journal includes several new screenshots.

While you read this, I want you to use your imagination and create a picture in your mind. A vision of a distant land, many, many years ago. See in your mind's eye ancient China, some time during the Ming Dynasty. See yourself, a poor young peasant, struggling down the dusty street of a small village. You do not have even a single coin to call your own. Still, you may not have money, but you do have great dreams. You have dreams of glory and wealth. You have dreams of standing up for yourself against the village bullies who terrorise you. But how? An old friend told you that by learning the skills of Kung Fu you could grasp these dreams. But who will teach you? How will you learn?

Everybody Was Kung Fu Fighting! A Q&A Session with CEO Howard Marks on 9Dragons - Acclaim's MMORPG Kung Fu Debut

What gamer doesn't love a quality kung fu movie on late-night cable? In our first interview with Acclaim Games, CEO Howard Marks tells us how 9Dragons, a martial arts MMORPG set in Ming Dynasty China, will bring that singular kung fu experience from a Korean concept into the hearts and focused minds of young grasshoppas in North America and Europe.

"While 9Dragons did originate in Asia, Acclaim has made substantive efforts to ensure that the game translates well to the Western market. Or, rather, doesn't 'translate' at all. 'What we did right was to rewrite the game's story and dialog rather than opt for a loose or literal translation. This takes a lot more time and money but the quality speaks for itself,' Marks stated. One of Marks's first publicized moves was to hire Steven Eliot-Altman, a Cantonese-speaking American author, to help rewrite the 9Dragons lore."
