  • Going for the throat, 2Moons style!

MMORPG.com has plopped a Q&A with 2Moons Assistant Director, Rusel DeMaria, down on their websited. The questions are your standard sort, consisting of "Why did you decide for an over 17 rating?" and "How do pay-to-play versus free-to-play compare?", but the entire Q&A is a decent read for those interested in 2Moons.

  • Steven-Elliot Altman Talks About 9Dragons

MMORPG.com has posted an interview with 9Dragons lead writer and loremaster, Steven-Elliot Altman.

Garrett Fuller quizes the man whose responsible for adapting 9Dragons to a Western audience. Here is the official brief on Altman: "Steven-Elliot Altman, best-selling author and Hollywood screenwriter, is the lead writer and loremaster of 9Dragons, the first authentic martial arts massively multiplayer online game. Think of the world of Hero,
House of the Flying Daggers, Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon or even Jackie Chan's classic Drunken Master. In 9Dragons you can rise from a beggar on the streets to become a master of martial arts as you train with some of the greatest masters of ancient China."

MMORPG.com: How historically accurate will 9Dragons be? What liberties will be taken to keep 9Dragons a long running MMO?

  • "No mercy for the weak, no pity for the dying, no tears for the slain"

The Game Musketeers has posted an interview with 2Moons Producer, David Perry. This interview includes several great screenshots as well.

    1. Since you have console and strategy specialist can we expect a more "twitch reflex" based MMO or will this game still stick to the standard MMO conventions of leveling equaling more power?

I'm a big fan of action fighting and yes, I much prefer console style fighting (like God of War) to basic MMO fighting. That said, if the game has good spells and skills that need to be mixed in, then the MMO fighting can get dramatically more interesting. MMO fighting is the way it is for good reason and so programming convention dictates the way things will work. I've always been from the school of "There MUST be a way", much to the frustration of the programmers I work with. So my suggestions for radical changes are usually followed by "There MUST be a way?"

  • The man behind 2Moons to the West answers our questions about the game

MMORPG.com has had a chance to sit down with David Perry.

MMORPG.com: Give us a little background on 2Moons. How did the idea begin? What was Acclaim's motivation for an MMO?

David Perry: I'm just one of these people that want to fire up a game and have fun. If I'm required to know the back history of 5 clans, or watch 20 minutes of cinematics, or read a website before I can have fun, it just bugs me. So I've been toying with the idea of making an MMO that's easy to get into, easy to understand, possibly funny at points, but that makes you feel bad-ass. Not wanting to wait 3 years to find out how it went, I looked for games/engines that could be a match. The closest I could find was a game called Dekaron made by GameHi in Korea. So now I had to convince the creator of that game to let me make any changes (not small ones, big ones, like "Erm... Would you mind if we changed the entire story?") They agreed! So being on a roll I made a list of "difficult requests" and flew to Korea again to explain those in person. Again, they seem receptive and are working on those. The great news is that we are just a few months away from launch.

So I've teamed up with a publisher with no Baggage, in the form of Acclaim. Howard Marks (the CEO) was one of the guys that brought Activision back from Bankruptcy, and as you know it's massive today. He's now doing the same thing with the Acclaim brand. He's backing this concept 150% and so I say he's either crazy or a pioneer. Only time will tell, but you can be certain he'll have a lot of consumer fans that got to play his games for free.

  • Everybody Was Kung Fu Fighting! A Q&A Session with CEO Howard Marks on 9Dragons - Acclaim's MMORPG Kung Fu Debut

What gamer doesn't love a quality kung fu movie on late-night cable? In our first interview with Acclaim Games, CEO Howard Marks tells us how 9Dragons, a martial arts MMORPG set in Ming Dynasty China, will bring that singular kung fu experience from a Korean concept into the hearts and focused minds of young grasshoppas in North America and Europe.

"While 9Dragons did originate in Asia, Acclaim has made substantive efforts to ensure that the game translates well to the Western market. Or, rather, doesn't 'translate' at all. 'What we did right was to rewrite the game's story and dialog rather than opt for a loose or literal translation. This takes a lot more time and money but the quality speaks for itself,' Marks stated. One of Marks's first publicized moves was to hire Steven Eliot-Altman, a Cantonese-speaking American author, to help rewrite the 9Dragons lore."

  • Free Play?

RPG Vault has an interview with Acclaim's CEO, Howard Marks.Find out what business model they plan to use to let players have a free and a premium option for 9 Dragons...

Our conclusion is that depending on your playing style and goals, you will decide to buy items or not. The cost in itself is not high, so it is really a playing style decision rather than an economic one.
