  • If the name means "blank slate," you know it has to have a good backstory!Actually, we know it has an immersive storyline because Richard "the father of MMOGs" Garriott is involved! Since TR is still a long ways out, this preview focuses on what Destination Games / NC Soft developers are concentrating on: namely a pure PvE, soloer-friendly, story-stuffed sci-fi high-octane MMOG with an accent on open-ended, class role-defying gameplay (whoa, there's a lot of adjectives there!).

"With Tabula Rasa, Destination Games is trying to do something a little bit different with the genre, taking certain elements from the first person shooter, and fusing them with role-playing. This isn’t to say that the game is going to be highly twitch-oriented, where dexterity rules the roost, as this simply isn’t the case. The game will still be focused on stats and character advancement like one would expect to find in an RPG, but the developers want to find a way to include some of the visceral, psychological elements of the FPS to include in the game. By doing this, they hope to provide a more intense, fast-paced experience for players."

  • Rush Hour, sans Chris Tucker & Jackie Chan
The last installment of this Auto Assault interview series focuses on why the release date was pushed to 2006, PvP action, backstory, and what AA has to offer in the way of high-end content.

" Can we have a few words on the recent news that Auto Assault has decided to extend the beta, and the improvements they are working towards?

Scott Brown: We evaluated the state of the current game after rushing to get LOTS of content into the game and realized it was not ready for prime time. So we are taking some time to go through every inch of the games content now and making sure it is fun, looks great, and brings a new experience to the game. Specifically, this also gives us more time to get class balances right and make sure PvP is everything we want it to be for the initial release. It is giving us an opportunity that we are all very excited about, and lets us make Auto Assault the best game it can be. "

  • The Return of the Screenshots

LucasArts posted 31 good lookin' screenshots for the November Star Wars Galaxies expansion as part of the Trials of Obi-Wan promo page.

(this is where a description of the screenshots would've been if the developer had bothered to post one; suffice it to say that there's lots of lava and crazy Mustsfarian creatures, more Imperial and Rebel costumes than you could see at a sneak preview of a hypothetical episode 7, that crazy neo-Asian looking SWG heavy armor... why not just go see for yourself!)

  • More Q&As than a DnD Player's Handbook has Mountain Dew stains!

As you read this interview with DDO Community Manager Victor Wachter- probing the decision to choose Eberron as a setting and sorting out what will make DDO compelling and unique in the genre- you just might be able to hear player's handbook pages turning and dice clattering deep in the background.

MMORPG.com: Will alignment play a factor in DDO? Can I, for example, choose to play a Chaotic Evil character, or is the game for good guys only?

Victor Wachter: Alignment is not embedded within the game systems, but these circumstances are presented within the quests and dungeons. Eberron itself is a setting where alignment is fluid, and so players may need to make choices that stretch the boundaries of their alignments. While alignment choices won’t limit a player’s options within the game, they will have an impact on how some NPC’s react toward their character.

  • Orcs with rocket launcers!

Excitement's growing ever since Mythic wrested the online remake of the long-famed tabletop gamer's delight Warhammer from cancellation at the hands of Climax. Since the game is still deep in the conceptual phase, producer Lande Robertson could only chat on the pre-production basics:

CGW: Which Warhammer license will you be using--the 40K universe or classic Warhammer?

Robertson: This MMORPG title will be based on all Games Workshop products relating to the classic Warhammer fantasy world. The creative people at Games Workshop have produced a wealth of great material, and this provides us with a solid foundation for the game. The depth of cool background information, the inspired designs of the races and their weapons of war, and the interesting dynamics of the warring factions make this property a pleasure to work on.

  • Exclusive Virtual Helmets
NCSoft has posted pictures of the helmets that City of Villains pre-order customers will receive. Hats R Us was unaware of this promotion and has lodged an official protest that goes something like this:

MMORPG.com has posted some new Auto Assault screenshots. Jeff Bodine refused to comment on his driving skill or on Auto Assault, so we just made this up:

  • WoW is Wow.
CVG has posted a World of Warcraft interview featuring Shane Dabiri and discussing the "WoW Factor". Tom Cruise confused WoW for War of the Worlds and demanded his own interview. When asked about his relationship with Katie Holmes he replied:

"Last evening we caught our pet cat playing World of Warcraft. As the most evil character in the game - Night Elf Rogue - he was fairing okay at level five although was getting a little confused when we kept telling him we'd assigned auto-run to the pause key (they're ALL paws keys to a cat see - geddit?). But it's testament to the massive, wide-spread penetration (yes, in our increasing effort to get slightly more risqué, we actually said 'PENETRATION') that Blizzard's MMORPG has achieved, with player numbers rocketing into the stratosphere. "

  • It's a deal.
Mythic Entertainment and AGEIA have signed an agreement that will see AGEIA physX technology in the upcoming Warhammer Online title. Donald Trump refused to return our calls regarding this deal, making it unclear if he would have said this:

" Mythic will make extensive use of the AGEIA physX SDK in developing its upcoming MMORPG based on the legendary Warhammer fantasy world. One of the most enduring fantasy games in history, Warhammer will be released as an MMO for the first time in 2007. Players who have PCs equipped with the AGEIA physX processor will experience never-before-seen levels of online immersiveness, along with stunning effects and rich interactivity. "

  • Henry Ford might turn over in his grave...

But he wasn't the only inspiration behind the motive MMOG Auto Assault! Learn how Auto Assault evolved conceptually and what it draws from the legends of the MMOG genre in this new sit-down session with Auto Assault Project Lead Scott Brown!

Q : Apart from the obvious, what would you say influenced you in the development of Auto Assault? Not just in a broad sense either - were there any games, movies, or what-have-you that had a direct bearing on some aspect of the game?

Scott Brown : I don't know that there is a direct influence on the game - so many different people's ideas and backgrounds have shaped the game into what it is today. We have wanted to do a car combat MMO for a long time and setting it in a post-apocalyptic universe just makes sense thanks to movies like Mad Max and games like Wasteland and Fallout.
