More on Ten Ton Hammer

As a surprise ending to E3 2008, BioWare announced that they are developing a new MMORPG possibly based on the bestselling Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic franchise. The Star Wars: The Old Republic storyline takes place around 3,600 years before the setting of the original Star Wars: A New Hope movie. At E3 2009 BioWare announced that Star Wars: The Old Republic will be the first ever fully voiced MMORPG. They also received high praise for their cinematic trailer "Deceived".

Star Wars: The Old Republic centers around a conflict between the Galactic Republic and Sith Empire following the signing of the Treaty of Coruscant. The two factions are in an uneasy cease fire that could destabilize and lead to war at any time. Players will choose to side with one of the factions and then select from four classes for each faction - Jedi Consular, Jedi Knight, Trooper and Smuggler for the Republic and the Sith Warrior, Sith Inquisitor, Bounty Hunter and Imperial Agent for the Sith Empire. Each class can choose from one of three advanced classes, each with three skill trees to build from as they level.

Star Wars: The Old Republic also boasts to be the first fully voiced MMORPG with an emphasis on player story. Flashpoints, Star Wars: The Old Republic's version of instanced dungeons, also emphasizes story and voice overs, allowing players to play through the same Flashpoint multiple times with potentially different ways the instance can play out.

The last couple of months has not been easy for neither the World of Warcraft or its players. Blizzard has announced massive subscription drops for two quarters now and the naysayers seem convinced the bell has tolled and WoW is coming to the end of its life, that the tide has turned in the favour of some other title like Star Wars: The Old Republic.

When it comes to World of Warcraft, Blizzard is not having a good year. They just announced a loss of another 300,000 players in the last quarter and the launch of Star Wars: The Old Republic is getting closer. Does this spell the end of WoW? Hell no!
