Designed by NetDevil, LEGO Universe looks to be the first MMO created specifically by a toy company utilizing virtual representations of the toys that the toy company makes. Lego Universe will be a persistent world that constantly evolves by players actions. Players will be able to create, build, quest and socialize in a world based on the Lego brand.

Lego Universe will feature an overarching storyline about the origins of Lego Universe and its inhabitants. Players will group to complete quests and by doing so, unlock more story and additional zones.

Players can acquire the game on DVD or through a download from the Lego Universe website.

Gazillion Entertainment announced that the LEGO Group purchased their rights to LEGO Universe on February 24th, 2011. LEGO Universe's development will continue under the LEGO Group, who opted to keep on a portion of NetDevil's staff.

The LEGO Group acquired full rights to LEGO Universe from Gazillion in February and has been working to improve the game and add new content since the acquisition. Next week will bring a series of updates to the game starting with a cooperative building challenge for players. On May 3rd, players will have to band together to build the Nexus Tower to help protect the Nexus of Imagination from the Maelstrom. Players will have one month to work together and complete the tower. Players can drop by Nimbus Station Race place and donate bricks to the cause. If you're generous enough, you can earn an achievement and a one-time reward.

The updates will also add a new racetrack that allows players to race the Maelstrom with new faction vehicles by locating the Dragonmaw Chasm racetrack hidden in the Forbidden Valley. Additionally, the updates will also add more space to build on with a new Property world and the ability to add pets with behaviors to your in-game properties. Check out the official press release after the break for more details.
