  • Bog Lurkers Revealed

In the continuing glimpses of the creatures that will inhabit Middle-earth, Turbine gives us a peek today at the Bog Lurker.

Found in the forested wetlands of western Middle-earth, the bog-lurker lives a concealed existence in the darkened wilds. To the casual observer, the body of the bog-lurker is seemingly made of root and bramble, its back alive with marsh-plants and its limbs formed of bark and wood. Ancient tales tell of the creature working alongside the mighty Ents of Eriador, acting in their service to assist in the shepherding of the trees.

  • Developer Diary: Jared Hall-Dugas

The official site for Lord of the Rings Online has been updated today with another developer diary. Today Jared Hall-Dugas gives us a tour of the raid system for this upcoming game.

    We've done it! We've discovered the formula for fun: [(x * 2.342) + (y * 2) + z4] / 24 = FUN!

Um, what? (See? You should have paid more attention in algebra class&I'll come back to this in a moment.)

    Raids...

Yes, we mean raids. The same raids that weren't originally planned for our game (see "Friends Don't Let Friends Tank Balrogs"). This isn't so much a philosophical change in our game, but rather an additional gameplay dynamic we have decided to include. For some members of our community, this means much rejoicing, but for others, there's a bit more concern, even fear. I'm here to give you a little more information about our raid plans to help alleviate some of those fears.

Read the full article for yourself and when you're done be sure to visit the forums at LOTRO Ten Ton Hammer to let us know what you think of how raids will shape up.

Two pieces of concept art, a description of Shades are the focus to the update on the Lord of the Ring Online official site today.

Throughout the dark places of Middle-earth, there can be found terrifying, bodiless spirits bound to the physical world. These ghostly spirits are the shades of Men of times past. Like the oath-breakers roused by Aragorn on the Paths of the Dead, they are bound to Middle-earth by an ancient curse, doomed to remain on the fringes of the living world until their curse is lifted.

  • Exploring Middle-earth: The Dead Spire

Today brings us a new installment of Exploring Middle-earth. The official site is updated today with a look at The Dead Spire.

The Barrow-downs is a name of dread, but it was not always so. The barrows were originally raised by the Edain, Men of ancient days, and later kept and revered by the Dúnedain of Cardolan. In the Third Age, a great plague swept across Middle-earth, out of Mordor, and the last vestiges of the Men of Cardolan perished. The Witch-king of Angmar sent evil spirits out of Angmar and Rhudaur to stir the bones of the dead and make the Barrow-downs the place of dread and evil it has become.

  • Exploring Middle-earth: The Withywindle

The Lord of the Rings Online official site has been updated with another entry of what you may find while exploring Middle-earth.

From its source in the mysterious Barrow-downs and all along its course through the Old Forest, the River Withywindle is a place of strange happenings and of dark and ancient legends. When adventuring in unknown areas within the Old Forest, travellers would be wise to avoid these winding, slow-moving waters, though doing so may prove difficult – The Withywindle has a way of drawing the unwary toward its deceptively tranquil surface and into its dark depths. It is also said that strange creatures of the forest - and even the very willow trees themselves along the Withywindle's banks - are agents of its ancient evil.

  • Exploring Middle-earth: The House of Tom Bombadil

Today, the official site for Lord of the Rings Online was updated with a look at more of the interesting places players will be able to explore in Middle Earth. Today's look it at The House of Tom Bombadil.

In the Old Forest, between Buckland and the Barrow-downs, stands a welcome sight: the home of Tom Bombadil and Goldberry, the River-maiden. Weary travellers will find this an unusually pleasant retreat amongst the ancient and often foreboding forest and the mist-shrouded downs beyond. Tom Bombadil himself is a person who defies specific explanation, though his intentions clearly favor the Free Peoples of Middle-earth.

Read more about what you might find in Middle Earth and then head over to LOTRO Ten Ton Hammer. You'll find the latest news, interviews and information on this upcoming Turbine MMO as well as a wonderful community, so jump on into the forums and let us know what you're thinking.

  • Creatures of Middle-earth: Neekerbreekers

On the official Lord of the Rings Online site, we are given a look at some of the creatures that will inhabit Middle-earth. Today, we are given a glimpse at Neekerbreekers.

Throughout Middle-earth there are many forms of insect; some mere annoyances, others more dangerous, and some that are a mystery rarely, if ever, seen. Neekerbreekers once fell into the last category. For ages, they were merely a distracting noise in the dark corners of the Midgewater Marshes, but recently a shadow has passed through Bree-land, and they have become more aggressive and begun to swarm.

Learn more about Neekerbreekers and see what they look like. What do you think of this creature? Let us know at LOTRO Ten Ton Hammer.

  • First Look: Release Notes Twilight Forge Module

If you're like me, you are counting the minutes until tomorrow's Twilight Forge update. To make your wait easier...ok well maybe just to pass the time...here is a sneak peek at the release notes.

Long ago, the Restless Isles were a chain of peaks linked by a labyrinth of tunnels and caverns. This natural fortress was transformed into a war foundry by the ancient lords of Dal Quor in their battle against the giants of Xen'drik. Known as the 'Twilight Forge,' this armory created warforged and other weapons for the cataclysmic war that ultimately ended in defeat for the quori and ruin for the giants.

Thousands of years have passed since then, and the land has been inundated with water from the Thunder Sea. Only the tops of the peaks remain above sea level, but quori-reinforced tunnels continue to link the islands in this mysterious chain. Although the quori have been gone for 40,000 years, their strange architecture survives. So do the wildmen – a race of warped humanoids known nowhere else in Eberron, and presumed to have evolved from servants that the quori left behind.

Visit Baudry Cartamon’s Shipping Warehouse, Ghola Fan’s Compound, The Shrieking Mines, and The Twilight Forge. Only a powerful party will survive the challenges of the Restless Isles!

Read the rest of the notes and pass the time until it goes live letting us know what you think about the changes on the forums at DDO Ten Ton Hammer!

  • Drow Race Revealed!

The time has come! In preparation of the launch of Twilight Forge, the new module for Dungeons and Dragons Online, the history of the drow race has been unvieled!

Most Drow choose a life of adventure out of necessity, given the dangers of their homeland. Still, they greatly desire personal power, and many Drow take up the mantle of adventurer seeking to satisfy their ambitions. The majority of Drow follow the evil scorpion-god Vulkoor, though exposure to the cultures of Stormreach has brought a few of them to less malevolent deities.

Read more about the Drow at the DDO main site.
