Mines of Moria is the first expansion to Lord of the Rings Online. The expansion opened up more areas for patrons of Middle Earth to explore, including the long awaited Mines of Moria where Gandalf fought the Balrog of Moria on the bridge of Khazad-Dûm. The Mines of Moria boosted the level cap to 60 and added new Session Play quests to the game that provide players with deeper story on the history of Middle-earth.

Mines of Moria also introduced two new classes to the game with the addition of the Rune-keeper and Warden classes. Legendary items were also added which can be used after level 50. Legendary items level up much like the player. When the item levels, it can gain new attributes to make it stronger.

A new storyline segment was also added with Volume II which continues the storyline that follows your own adventure and that of the Fellowship.
