Guild Wars 2 is the direct descendant of the original Guild Wars; a product of a desire to do more in a gaming world than simply creating a world for player versus player arena battles. Instead, Guild Wars 2 will have several gameplay options for players - player versus environment, player versus player in an arena type format, and world player versus player.

Players in Guild Wars 2, unlike the original game, will have five different races to choose from in the game: human, Charr, Norn, Asura and Sylvari. Professions - primary and secondary - will be included in the game, along with Companions, but the details on these two areas have yet to be released.

Guild Wars 2 will be a game you can group or solo in as the content will scale in difficulty with the amount of people in the adventure. Character progression will use an rpg appropriate system and strive to avoid the grind. To aid lower level players in grouping with their higher level friends, a sidekick system will be implemented.

Guild Wars 2 will be free-to-play, but it will require you to purchase the game box first.
