  • PvP Primer: Builds for Alliance Battles and More

The official site for Guild Wars has been updated with another issue of PvP Primer.

Like any other PvP arena, what you learn in Alliance Battles has relevance elsewhere in the game, so rather than offering specific builds for Alliance Battles, each of the builds we discuss below has variations for Alliance Battles, solo play (Random Arenas or pick-up-groups for Alliance Battles), and GvG. Studying how the skills interact with each other, synergize with allied players, and affect enemies will help you understand these builds and prepare you should you encounter them in GvG or other highly competitive areas.

  • PvP Primer: Alliance Battles

The official site for Guild Wars has posted another in the series of PvP Primers. This one covers Alliance Battles.

    Cross-training

Because of the varied opposition you'll face in 12v12 Alliance Battles, you have many chances to improve your PvP aptitude. For example, when facing disorganized enemies, observe their movements and note their failures. Alliance Battles repeatedly demonstrate the efficacy of split tactics. You will soon find that a team that clumps into a moving mass when traveling from one shrine to another will most likely lose. In cases where controlling multiple resources determines the outcome of the match, splitting your team usually results in a better outcome.

  • PvP Primer: Finding a Group

The official site for Guild Wars has been updated with another in the series of PvP Primers.

The preceding Primer articles have focused on activities you can do by yourself to improve your PvP ability. At some point, however, you may reach a point where you've exhausted solo options and wish to begin playing with other people. Note that should you choose not to make the leap toward playing with other people, you can still continue to PvP by yourself and compete in our 1v1 Hero Battle championship series.

  • Wintersday Concludes, And the Winner is...

The official site for Guild Wars has posted the 29th issue of The Scribe.

The Wintersday challenge has concluded. And yet, as many have noticed, warm weather has not returned. Though the lands in Tyria and Elona haven't yet thawed, those loyal to Dwayna assure me that soon only the mighty Shiverpeak Mountains will be covered in Grenth's white blanket.

The Avatar of Grenth has expressed his satisfaction with the performance of Grenth's supporters during the divine challenge, assuring those loyal to Grenth that they have successfully forestalled the thaw for as long as can be expected. He did, however, grumble that his deity is slightly annoyed at the inevitable return of the warm weather; it seems no amount of support can prevent spring's thaw completely.

  • PvP Primer: Fort Aspenwood Cross-Training

The official site for Guild Wars has another in their series of PvP Primers up today.

    Starting Out

A Factions PvP arena, Fort Aspenwood offers new players an excellent chance to break into competitive play. The Fort Aspenwood environment forgives mistakes much more readily than other arenas, and it has the same party forming mechanic as Random Arenas. When you enter battle at Fort Aspenwood, you don't have to find a group—the game automatically groups you with a team.
