Alganon is a fantasy-based MMORPG filled with rich features such as: an in-game database called 'The Library', Studies that grow your character's capabilities while offline, Consignment capabilities for an expansive crafting system, Dual Role's so your characters fit into groups better, and much more.

There are also the more common features as multiple races and classes, powerful weapons and armor, deadly magic, epic quests and adventures, ancient places to discover, detailed tradeskills, MyAlganon connectivity, and more.

Players can choose from two races, which are separated between two factions, and four classes. Much like the MMOs before it, Alganon strives to pit players from the two warring factions against each other in a variety of different methods.

Alganon will also use a number of different advancement means, including a system called "Studying", which allows advancement while you're not online. Here's the official quote from the FAQ:

Our Studies system allows a player to grow their characters over time through a progressive time-based advancement method. Whether you are online or offline, selected studies will advance. This system provides a balance, ensuring a healthy reward for those that do not have the time to invest in the game, but not giving an unfair advantage to those that do.

Players can currently choose between four classes:

  • Soldier: Tanks specializing in the use of heavy armors and weaponry. Soldiers will have 'Anger' that builds up when in battle, allowing them to execute special actions. Soldiers will also have different stances that can be used for various situations to enhance defense or damage.
  • Ranger: Rangers can control certain creatures, allowing them to become equal to any class in Alganon. They can also use ranged attacks and toxins while using traps and tracking to catch their enemies off guard.
  • Healer: Healers are capable of mending wounds and smiting their enemies with Words of power and Touches of Power. Healers can also supercharge their attacks by going into a trance or using the Deathwalk ability.
  • Magus: The Magus is a master of the elements and specializes in the use of Flame, Frost and Storm magics. The Magus can summon elementals or specialize their powers in other areas to become a deadly force on the battle field.

Another key feature is The Library. The Library records not only facts about the game, but Legends of the greatest warriors of Alganon. Essentially it is an in-game database, both accessible from in-game and on MyAlganon. Players contribute to the database by delivering discoveries to their major cities libraries, though reading of the information is available anywhere in the game world.

On August 13th, 2010 Quest Online changed the payment model of Alganon from subscription-free to free-to-play.
