Phantasy Star Universe is the sequel to the award winning Phantasy Star Online series from Sega. It is available for play on the PC with Windows, as well as on the Xbox 360 and the PS2. The game offers both a single player "Story Mode" and a multi-player "Network Mode".

In Network Mode, players fight together in real time battles. Players create their own character and explore the worlds of Phantasy Star Universe. Network mode has a deeper storyline than the single-player Story Mode. You can meet and interact with other players in the Transfer Lobby. These are the places to chat, buy or trade.

Online battles take place in real-time as players collaboratively fight together. In the players' room, each player can create items, and create and customize their own Partner Machinery which is a robot that holds items retrieved in the field, and more.

On January 21st, 2010, SEGA announced that it would be closing the Phantasy Star Universe servers for the PC and Playstation 2 on March 31st 2010, but also announced that support and updates for the Xbox 360 version would continue.

On September 7th, 2012, Sega officially pulled the plug on Phantasy Star Universe, shutting the game down completely.

According to Game Feed, a title dating from the Sega Master System days, Phantasy Star Online, will have an MMO present on the 360.

SEGA Studios must have figured they’ve kept their fans waiting long enough. It’s hard not to have ever heard the name Phantasy Star if you’ve been a Sega Genesis (or even a Master System) owner/fan back in the golden gaming era. Phantasy Star Online, a title that goes down in history as the first ever videogame console MMORPG (it also precedes ‘Final Fantasy XI’ in being the first-ever multi-platform MMORPG. Episodes I and II are playable on each of the PC, Dreamcast, Xbox, and Gamecube gaming platforms.)
