  • Rumors Swirl About a KOTOR MMO in Development

CVG is reporting on a rumor that BioWare may be working on a new MMO.

BioWare has formed a new online team to create a Star Wars: Knight of the Old Republic massively multiplayer online game, EGM reports.

No further details were reported in the rumour section of the US magazine but we've taped our fingers crossed. KOTOR is one of our favourite Star Wars games ever and the thoughts of an online MMO is, frankly, too much to take in.

  • IMGDC Day One Summary

GamersInfo posted another article from IMGDC today. This one is a summary of day one events.

After the keynote address, the day started for me with a panel on Designing Non-standard MMO's with Standard Tools by Celia Pearce. Celia is an academic researcher who had spent time looking at emergent social behavior in MMO's. One of the games she mentioned most often was Uru, the online version of Myst. In her study, she'd watched how the players would work together to make sense of the world they were playing in.

  • Keynote Address Overview

GamersInfo has updated their site today with this look at Dr. Richard Bartle's keynote address as the recent IMDGC.

The difference between players who want to be designers and true game designers is that players who want to be designers just want to play their own design. If, on the other hand, you get people together with actual design talent, what he referred to as a “critical mass of talent”, you get that same “flowering” of game design that happened back in 1989.
