In The Matrix Online, the revolution (from the movie trilogy) is over, but a secret war still rages between the Exiles, the machines and the people of Zion. Events abound in this game, in the past including everything from looking for the body of Neo to red-eyed agents that attacked all humans.
The game is now published and maintained by SOE, the game includes many characters from the movies and attempts to pick up where the movies left off. Characters can follow the main storyline from the movies, or they can gain fame and favour with their chosen faction through missions. The world is wide open for you
On 29 May 2009, SOE announced that the Matrix Online would be closed on July 31, 2009. The game featured a final event to tie up the storyline before everyones plug was pulled, the matrix destabilized, and the servers shut down for the last time.
