  • The Data Node One has released MXO Patch Notes for Episode 3.3. Let the Holiday Festivities begin... in a war ravaged world run by machines...

    inter Holiday: December 20, 2005 through January 17, 2006
It's time to celebrate the first ever Winter Holiday Celebration in The Matrix Online! During this period, snow will be falling in the Mega City and Snowman and Holiday Helper Vendors will be around to help you get into the holiday spirit.

Four types of Snowman Vendors can be found in each District with different types of Snowballs for sale. (Icy, Slushy, Powdery, and Rocky.)
Holiday Helper Vendors, outside Mega City clubs, will trade Holiday and Party hats to players for one of each type of Snowball.
Equip a Red or Green Holiday Hat to put your RSI in the "Festive" state. Players in the "Festive" state can throw and be targeted by Snowballs.
Snowballs can be "thrown" by activating them from the Action panel or the hotbar. Hitting another player with a Snowball reduces the stability of the equipped Holiday Hat.
When Holiday Hats lose all stability, they disappear. Players can stage snowball fights where "last hat standing" wins.
Black, Silver, and Gold Party Hats can be worn and activated to create flying confetti and party sound effects.
Special gifts for all good little redpills: 100,000 $i. The effect: Priceless.

  • Can you hear me grumbling in Colorado? Well you should, because I am! The Matrix Online topped my biggest disapointments list ever this year. It was cool in relation to avatars and clothes and junk.. BUT C'MON! If I wanted to play City of Heroes.. I'd be playing City of Heroes!

I digress..There's a brand spankin new Designer Journal on Data Node One - The offical website.

I’m pleased to say that the team has been making great progress. We’ve had a busy month working on game improvements including the SOE mail system and the first phase of the content revamp. And now, as we head into the last month of 2005, our hard work on the combat revision is paying off. The main focus of today’s journal is to explain the first part of the combat revision and I think you will love the changes.

  • If the producer's initials are AOK, that counts for something, right?
The Matrix Online, the troubled brainchild of Warner Bros. Interactive pawned off to SOE 4 months ago, is apparently in transition. Andrew Kaplan, producer, shares his thoughts on the last few months:

Throughout our transition the story of the Matrix has not skipped a beat. We have delivered three compelling sub-chapters of story missions and cinematics to go with the final event where Morpheus’ killer met his match.

New content was delivered in the form of an entirely new feature, Pandora’s Box. Players have been progressing through the series of linked missions and mini-events though few if any have been able to defeat the final encounter without a lot of help for fellow players!

There have also been ongoing tuning and re-balancing. We have adjusted the experience rewards for the introduction missions and for synchronizing hardlines, making progress in the lower levels a bit easier and giving the explorers out there another reason to venture forth.

Since we're not sure if we're actually in the Matrix or not, we can't deliver content straight into your hear. You'll have to click here for the latest Matrix Online producer's letter.

  • SOE Takes the Red Pill

Players have questions regarding Sony Online Entertainment's takeover of The Matrix Online, and SOE has some hard-to-swallow answers. MxO players can, however, look forward to 30 days of free play.

When will the transition from WBIE to SOE take place?
The transition is scheduled to occur on August 15, 2005. When you attempt to log in to the game on or following the scheduled August 15th transition date you will be notified that MxO is moving to SOE's Station platform. The notification window will carry a link to the Sony Online Entertainment (SOE) Station web site at which you will be offered the opportunity to create a new Station account.

In order to continue to play MxO as of this date, you will need to register with SOE by creating a Station account, submitting billing and other subscriber information, and agreeing to SOE's End User License Agreement, Terms of Service, and other rules and policies. You will only need to complete this full process of re-registration once.

  • Patching The Matrix, How Ironic.
Data Node One has posted Patch 7.462 notes for The Matrix Online. A blue pill and a red pill walked into a fusion bar and the blue pill said:

"This patch is being released along with the planned world merge. Players will be receiving a special in-game item when they first log on after the merge. Please make sure you have at least one open Inventory slot on all characters before servers go offline at 12:01 AM Pacific Daylight Time on Tuesday, August 2, 2005!"

  • SOE Goes Down Through the Rabbit Hole
Andrew Kaplan posted end-of-July comments about what SOE's takeover will mean to MxO's player community. Interestingly, he did not dispel rumors that MxO will become a new expansion for EverQuest players that use one too many hacks and exploits, meet up with Laurence Fishburne, take a pill, and finally see modern-day Norrath as it truly is:

" The development team has made the transition to the SOE Seattle office. In addition, we are excited to have Paul Chadwick on board to help continue the saga of The Matrix. We have a solid, motivated group. Morale is high and the team is in the process of executing a series of changes that are going to add to an already promising game. "

  • Will Work For Blue Pill.
The Seattle Times is reporting that at least 80 Monolith employees are being let go as part of the Sony acquisition of The Matrix Online. The screaming voices inside our head tell us that they may have written this:

"Monolith Productions, a Kirkland computer and video-game developer, said yesterday it would lay off 80 employees after transferring two of its game titles to Sony Online Entertainment."

  • Resistance is futile. SoE will assimilate.
The Matrix Online has been purchased by Sony Online Entertainment, or so the rumour goes. They likely wrote this:

"According to some unnamed sources, MxO has been sold.
    To Sony.
And except for 26 people, everyone's been given their 60 day notice. That includes event staff."
