More on Ten Ton Hammer

In the estimations of many, the fantasy themed, top-down perspective MMOG Lineage was once one of the most popular online games to ever grace the massively multiplayer marketplace. Released to Korean citizens in 1998, Lineage was one of the first graphical MMOGs in the world and was certainly one of the most popular games in Korea for years. According to MMOGchart, Lineage - at its peak - was recording over three million subscribers. Lineage still remains popular with several hundred thousand users, but does not compete for the top slots in the market anymore.

The gameplay in Lineage is fairly derivative of Dungeons and Dragons, as players have certain alignments (lawful good, neutral, evil) and gain levels by earning experience points through questing and defeating monsters. Treasure and loot can be found off dead monsters and players can then use it on their own characters. Attribute points such as strength, wisdom, and charisma are also used to measure the abilities of a player's character. At the beginning of the game players choose from five character classes: elf, knight, wizard, prince/princess, or dark elf.

As a side note, the title of the game - Lineage - came from a series of comic books with the same name and the servers are actually named after characters in that series.

Hot off the wire, we have all the information you need!

    Lineage: October 26 – October 31

Halloween in the Lands of Aden, 2006

    * The Halloween Event begins Oct 26 and runs until the end of Oct 31
    * NOTE: The event begins on Oct 26, 2006 with a variety of event specific monsters spawning throughout the world in random locations. As the event progresses, more monsters of varying types will invade Aden, as well as a variety of "traps" (including poison traps and spike traps!).
    * Halloween spawns will reach a crescendo on Tuesday, Oct 31 with a variety of Halloween Event "Boss" monsters.
    * Halloween specific items will drop from a variety of NPCs, such as candies and pumpkins. The candies will all have a random effect.
    * Bronze, silver, and gold pumpkins can be "opened" for a special prize! (Silver are better than bronze, gold are better than silver).
    * Several restricted or limited "costumes" or polymorph options will be available, such as the Vampire morph.

    Lineage II: October 24 – November 7

Omega, a skilled and experienced fighter, has been captured by the leader of an undead legion of warriors. The leader of the undead has demanded a ransom for the return of Omega, and Omega's faithful servant has traveled to the villages of Aden and Elmore to gain support for the return of her master.

    Coffer of Shadows

For a fee of 50,000 adena, you can purchase a Coffer of Shadows from Omega's Cat. These mysterious containers can reveal Demon Horns or the Mask of Spirits, special head accessory items from the netherworld. The coffer might also reveal a Mystery Potion, Firecrackers, or a Large Firecracker. Extremely lucky adventurers might also find a stage 11 or 12 Soul Crystal inside. Good luck!

I'd love to see a Lineage version of the Citibank Commercials. Give me a Dark Elf with a redneck Bubba's voice and I'm a happy girl.

Apparently, a number of individuals with access to various individual's personal information from their companies' databases leaked lists of various citizens' resident registration numbers to people who operated 'game rooms'. Then...

The seven gameroom operators reportedly hired about 100 part-time game players and made about 14.2 billion won ($15 million) in offline profits by selling cyber items obtained in the process of game-playing. Such items usually take long hours of play and a certain degree of luck. They are sold over Web sites to players for "real" money.

But even though NCSoft knew all about this, including senior NCSoft executives, they didn't actually do anything to stem the tide of stolen identities being used. They covered it up, afraid their profits would go down if it was common knowledge that their system was so insecure.

You can read the rest here.

I call this a Duh! case. It isn't easy to follow the case. I'll sum it up like this. NCSoft got sued last year. The case was over a potential account hack at a cyber cafe. Their login data had been stored in a file.

Now, with that said, there were no damages reported. This was a case of "something could have happened." The courts in Korea ruled that NCSoft would pay these five people a whopping $530 each.

I understand that NCSoft is appealing on principal, but c'mon! It's $530 bucks. You can read the entire story here.
