The fate of ten planets hang in the balance. Three Empires battle for control and you, the player, are but a member of one of these, a chess piece in the battle for ultimate gain. Dropships are ready to deploy you to the battle of your choice, where you can engage in first-person player vs. player combat or vehicular combat.
Coordinate with other players to join a team and best utilize your skills in battle. Learn to maneuver around weather and environmental conditions, gain experience, use equipment upgrades and implants to give your empire the edge it needs for victory.
Planetside is 100% player vs player with no NPC characters in a persistent world of evolving combat. Characters can level up and train in a variety of skills ranging from combat firearms, ground assault and support vehicles, aircraft and even giant battle mechs. Bionics are also gained to enhance players in a variety of ways, leaving the customization open to the player. Players will choose to join one of three factions to engage in massive combat for control of fortresses, outposts, and towers.

Terran Republic: The Terran Republic is the established order, fighting to preserve its tradition of unity and power.

Vanu Sovereignty: The Vanu Sovereignty uses the alien technology found on Auraxis to guide human and social evolution along the path it has determined.

New Conglomerate: The New Conglomerate is an anarchistic organization that wishes to cultivate a new society on Auraxis; free of the oppression they feel dominates Earth.
Planetside has had two expansions: Core Combat and Aftershock.
