A Tale in the Desert (commonly abbreviated ATITD) is an MMOG set in Ancient Egypt. The administrator of the game, the Pharaoh, keeps a vigilant eye on his players and is constantly in contact with them, making ATITD one of the more player-friendly games on the market.
The initial software and all new expanded content is free, but there is a monthly fee of $13.95 to continue playing after the first 24 hours of gameplay. The playerbase, which resides mostly in the U.S. and Europe, is small (a few thousand players), but many of them are dedicated to the game. ATITD is noted for being one of the first MMOGs to be based around economic development rather than combat.
