More on Ten Ton Hammer

The Firefly MMOG (working title) is still in the early stages of pre-production. Multiverse, the company that grabbed the Firefly license, is currently looking for an active developers to create the Firefly game on the Multiverse game engine. Without a developer, the time line for Firefly is still very much up in the air. Bridges has mentioned having a playable Beta by 2008, but all dates are works in progress.

20th Century Fox, the media studio that holds the rights to the Firefly IP, has been working with Multiverse in an effort to compose the necessary elements to create a faithful vision of the Firefly franchise. Multiverse, which was founded by former Netscape employees, has Fox’s confidence in their creation of the game. Since its announcement, the Firefly MMOG has been delayed. No news as of yet whether this will move forward or not.

    I'm SO going to Jeynestown.

Massively, the new all-things-MMO-related blog, seems to think that Google might be sinking its tendrils into the Firefly MMO.

Google made a deal with Multiverse (the company connected to the possibly problematic Firefly MMO) to sync Multiverse's flexible virtual reality engine with Google's assets and tools. The Reuters blog MediaFile points out that au courant industry figures are taking the existence of a Google virtual world for granted at this point.

    Corey Bridges Interviewed

GamingAngels.com has posted an interview with the co-founder and executive producer, of The Multiverse Network, Corey Bridges.

Firefly is such a beloved tv show, how do you plan to capture that essence in the game?

Joss Whedon created a phenomenal, unique show. The characters were amazing but so was the feel of the show--the sense of adventure, and quirky humor--and that sense of being on the frontier, where there's unknown danger just past the edge of camp. An MMO can do a good job conveying those aspects of the show. You can't play as Captain Mal Reynolds--but you might meet him in the game. And maybe you could accept a smuggling mission from Badger or, if you're kinda nuts, from Niska.

Multiverse Co-Founder and Executive Producer Shares Information

FireflyMMO.com posted a Q & A on their site this weekend with Corey Bridges who is a Co-founder of Multiverse as well as the Executive Producer of this exciting project. Keep reading to see what they were able to learn...

Did Multiverse approach Fox about the license, or did Fox approach Multiverse?

James Cameron, director of Titanic, the first two Terminator movies, Aliens, and so on, is on the Multiverse board of advisors, along with his producer Jon Landau. They have a great relationship with Twentieth Century Fox, so they introduced Fox and Multiverse. In the first meeting, we were talking with the Fox Licensing and Merchandising folks about virtual worlds and massively multiplayer online games. They said, “Here’s a list of some of our properties. Which of these do you think would make a great MMO?” I didn’t really look at the list, and said, “Is Firefly on the list? Firefly would be perfect!”
