Dark and Light is a MMOG developed by NP Cube and published by Farlan Entertainment. The premise behind the development of the game was to make a world that was truly massive. Using a landscape generator and other technologies (like SpeedTree), the developers at NP Cube created a vast world measuring 15,000 square kilometers. Unfortunately, the world was scarcely populated when the game was released, and many individuals playing the game felt like they were adventuring in a lonely world.

Aside from the land, Dark and Light has its focus on player versus environment combat and "the three axes", which are crafting, fighting, and socializing. Abbreviated CXP, FXP, and SXP, these three axes are intertwined with one another, allowing characters to advance in the overall world around them by becoming a baron or lord.

A variety of career paths also gives characters access to many different options to advance in. Dark and Light provides the player with 12 races and and nineteen classes to choose from.

  • Are you in the market for a job in the gaming industry? Mythic Entertainment may have something for you. The developer recently posted new job opportunities for bi-lingual Customer Support Representatives to the Dark Age of Camelot and Warhammer Online Herald. The job calls for a person fluent in speaking English and French or German. And as you might expect, people skills and good customer service manners are a must. If you're in the market for a job be sure to give it a look.

  • Exclusive Dark and Light Q&A with Géraldine Lescs

On the list of headquarters locations for MMORPG development, Africa's Macarene Islands probably rival Iceland in the "surprising but true" category. Nevertheless, our latest Dark and Light Q&A comes to you direct from the two tiny Indian Ocean island nations called Mauritius and La Réunion. Géraldine Lescs, Marketing Manager for Farlan Entertainment's truely massive MMORPG, clears up a few misconceptions about the game, introduces some little known DnL features, and also clues us in about Farlan's future plans for Dark and Light.

"Géraldine Lescs, Farlan Entertainment: ''What is really unique in Dark and Light is that players never experience travel constraints. Not only they can use terrestrial mounts as soon as they start playing, but also they can fly using para-glide, experience free fall parachuting, or snowboard from the very first levels onward. And, using flying mounts, players can ascend, fly above the clouds or the rain... they are totally free.'"

Farlan Entertainment, the makers of Dark and Light, has come under fire by community members for billing player accounts who are not actually playing the game. In these types of situations things can become very tricky so we here at MMORPG.com want to try to provide all the people involved with as much information as we can get. Here is the situation as it stands from community posts on the Dark & Light boards.

Read the full report and then weigh in with your thoughts in the Ten Ton Hammer Forums.

  • MMORPG.com Tells All

MMORPG.com has posted a review of Dark and Light. This review includes some really nice screenshots. Keep reading to learn more.

Take the world of an MMORPG, multiply it by a hundred and add complete freedom of movement and a fluid day/night cycle with changing seasons and weather. This is Dark and Light. The world of Dark and Light is so huge that you can actually get lost in it. You can spend hours just exploring and enjoying the wonderful views of bright deserts, snowy mountain peeks and dark caverns. Unfortunately, this big beautiful world is pretty much empty.

The environment may never stop impressing, but the character models certainly do. They do not make good use of the current technology and their animations are at times silly. In fights your character sometimes swings his sword in circles above his head before hitting the enemy. The characters do a disservice to the environments they populate.
