Aika + Warhammer Online: Age of Reckoning + Allods Online + Aion

  • Keeping Score

Today's Common Content article for the TenTonHammer network deals with the idea of Scoreboarding in an MMO. Since Warhammer Online will obviously need some kind of PvP scoring system, today Ratboy takes a look into the pro/con's of a Scoreboard in an MMO and what one can expect from having one.

People are jerks. It’s a plain fact that really shows in environments where people get together and thus it really shows up in MMO’s. People enjoy spiting one another over the simplest of things and it seems to be even sweeter if it’s people you don’t know; thus scoreboards. Dating back to those old FPS games you used to play back when you were a ‘wee gamer child’ the scoreboard lets you know who’s on top of the heap when it comes to total score. Now the inevitable question needs to be asked; does Warhammer Online need a scoreboard? As a game that’s based around PvP and players engaged in combat, it seems obvious that something will be needed, but let’s go over the finer points of the scoreboard system shall we?

  • Steve Marvin Chats About Warhammer Online: Age of Reckoning

Gamespot has posted an interview with senior game designer Steve Marvin. Warhammer Online: Age of Reckoning is the topic of conversation. Keep reading to see what they were able to learn.

Massively multiplayer role-playing games let you explore and adventure in huge virtual worlds populated by thousands of players. And the massively multiplayer RPG genre is going to get an influx of orcs, dwarfs, and other fantasy creatures next year when EA and EA Mythic release Warhammer Online: Age of Reckoning, a game that's set in the popular Warhammer Fantasy universe. Warhammer is better known for its tabletop miniatures game, but in Warhammer Online you will be able to create a fantasy character based on some of the universe's most popular races and then select a career path that lets you really explore the different facets of Warhammer. • Choppa, RunePriest, and Black Crag Career Pages

Three exclusive new career pages are the highlight today on our Warhammer Ten Ton Hammer Community site. Don't miss out..head over now!

Even the most stable Orc is only a hairs breadth from coming completely unglued in the heat of battle. It is to the great relief of their opponents and allies alike that most of them manage to keep it together. There are some Orcs, however, that just can’t be bothered with that sort of thing.

    Black Crag

Long ago, before the Time of Woes, the kingdom of the Dwarfs spanned the whole of the World’s Edge Mountains and many lands beyond. Among all the southern holds of the Dwarfs, Karak Drazh was second only to the mighty fortress at Karak Eight Peaks in its size and splendor.

Dwarfs don’t go in for magic. Like so many things embraced by humans and their allies it’s just much too new-fangled and unreliable, at least from the Dwarfen point of view. Now runes on the other hand, that’s a whole different story. Runes have an old power. Their carving is a ritual so refined that the results are as expected as rocks rolling down hill.

  • "Rant"icle #5: MMO Spyware… Watch out!

Another rant by Ratboy was needed in this dark time. So here it is! Today's "rant"icle talks about the recent stir caused by EA's Battlefield 2142 and its use of in-game advertising. Ratboy writes about his fears that one day MMO's might endure the same fate... oh wait "/pizza".

There’s been a whole crazy discussion about the recent insinuation that Battlefield 2142 has spyware built into their game. Yes I know, you’re immediate reaction is to shout out “ZOMG! I needs my tin foil hat to stop the Government from spying on me over the internets through the games.”, but in reality this entire recent debacle has been blown out of proportion

  • Mythic's Paul Barnett offers a glimpse into the embattled world of the Empire.

GameSpy had a chance to talk to Paul Barnett and get a preview of the Empire, one of the factions in the upcoming Warhammer Online.

It would be difficult to find someone who will speak on the topic of Warhammer with more impassioned fervor than Mythic's Paul Barnett. The man seems to channel the spirits of the orcs, dwarves, and Chaos Marauders that populate the brutal world that he's helping to bring to life. As such, we could not think of anyone better to talk with us about the latest in-game faction for Warhammer: Age of Reckoning that Mythic has decided to unveil: the Empire. As you'd expect from the Warhammer universe, this human nation, to paraphrase Mr. Barnett, is teetering on the edge of annihilation at the hands of a multitude of assailants, not the least of which is humanity's own tendency to take the violent measures necessary for survival to wild extremes.

  • Columbus Day

There's a fun sensation when finding a new zone in an MMO. The scenery changes, everything is different then a few minutes ago, and then BANG! A bear who's 40 levels higher then you decides to agro across the zone and "OMGWTFP0WN" you. Exploring is an essential part of any MMO and this week Ratboy looks at it indepth.

There are always players who live to explore the uncharted and try out new things in an MMO environment, but at what point does exploration begin to negatively impact a game world? That’s the question for this week’s Common Content article here at Warhammer Ten Ton Hammer, and there are a lot of angles to explore with a topic as specified as this one. Will Warhammer Online cater enough to the players who want to do nothing but explore and try out new things, or will it be another “inescapable grind” that players are forced to endure.

  • Road to 7th Edition: The Army of Rat-Ho-Tep

Finally a new entry for the Road to 7th Edition! Having completed his recent move across the city, with only two days of internet downtime, Ratboy has posted his third in what will no doubt be an epic series of articles. This week Ratboy has finally decided which army he will be playing in 7th Edition and has even got a sizeable start on it.

So I’ve made my decision and if you hadn’t guessed by the title of this week’s entry I will be starting an army of Tomb Kings. I’ve had a few pieces of Tomb Kings stuff scattered about my house which I found while I was preparing for the move, so that only added to the craziness of my new plan.

  • Kadrin Valley Zone Overview

Along with the recently released Warhammer Online Newsletter came information on the new zone of Kadrin Valley. Not being one to keep information from our loving masses, we here at WAR Ten Ton Hammer have decided to give you the details on this new zone.

Along with the information on this new zone are associated images as well as our own Ten Ton Thoughts. So if you're interested in the Valley of the Slayers, this page is for you.

Slayers are awesome. There is no other way to describe this zone as the home of slayers in Warhammer Online. So if a logical Vulcan were reading this we can assume that Kadrin Valley is awesome. With not only Slayers and Greenskins fighting each other, we also have bands of Dark & High Elves fighting their continual war in the valley as well. To top it all off; being the road to the Empire, Kadrin Valley is also a good place for Chaos and Humans to start some fighting good times.

  • Dwarven Engineer and the Goblin Squig Herder

Today we have two new Class Overview pages up for reader consumption. Going with the recent Newsletter release from Mythic we've thrown up descriptions and media for the two new classes; the Dwarven Engineer and the Goblin Squig Herder.

Guns guns guns. Oh, I suppose it’s important to note that grenades and artillery will play a big part in the Engineer’s overall roll for Warhammer Online. As a ranged class that is capable of unleashing high levels of damage at medium to short range, the Engineer will prove invaluable for people looking to be able to take down a super powerful tanking class.

Along with pretty pictures we even have a few TenTonThoughts for your consumption with this update. Read on at Warhammer Ten Ton Hammer!
