  • This from a press release today.

France Telecom Online Publisher to publish and operate WAR across Europe

FAIRFAX, VA - JUNE 6, 2006 - Mythic Entertainment, a leading developer and publisher of massively-multiplayer online role-playing games (MMORPG’s), today announced Warhammer® Online: Age of Reckoning™ (WAR) will be published and operated across Europe by GOA, the France Telecom-owned publisher of online games. GOA has successfully operated Dark Age of Camelot in Europe with Mythic since 2001. WAR is based on Games Workshop’s popular Warhammer® fantasy war game and features next generation Realm vs. Realm™ (RvR) game play that will immerse players in a world of perpetual conflict. WAR will arrive on the PC simultaneously in the US and Europe in the fall of 2007.

“The initial partnership between Mythic and GOA resulted in Dark Age of Camelot being the number one MMORPG in Europe for many years,” said Mark Jacobs, CEO and President of Mythic Entertainment. “With WAR our goal is nothing less than to take Europe by storm and regain that leadership position in the European market.”

“We are thrilled to be partners with Mythic again and build on the five-year relationship and experience that we’ve been enjoying with their team,” commented Ghislaine Le Rhun, Senior Vice President of GOA. “Warhammer Online: Age of Reckoning has tremendous potential and we intend to treat the game with all the care it deserves. We look forward to introducing the game to European players.”

  • Monthly subscrip... huh?

Apparently Ratboy didn't know anything about the Monthly Subscription he had been paying for since he started playing MMOs. Upon hearing about it he took a look into the darkest corners of the dreaded "Monthly Subscription". Here's a quick tidbit:

Almost every MMO out on the market today has a monthly subscription that players need to pay; Warhammer Online will be no different. That being said, will it really be “worth it” for players to pay a Monthly subscription and in doing so what kind of situation will players and the game publishers be putting themselves into when they bring the almighty dollar into the equation?

  • This is a fantastic video of Paul Barnett talking about what is so great about Warhammer Online. On a side note, it's pretty funny. I can't write much about it, other than - You can watch this video here.

My favorite quote - "The green-skins are like a bunch of soccer hooligans."

  • Ratboy says: WAR != WoW

Ratboy writes today about a subject that’s annoyed him ever since I heard Mythic was picking up the Warhammer License for an MMORPG. Warhammer Online IS NOT World of Warcraft. So here’s why…

With the buzz of E3 leaving my system, I have finally put fingers to keyboard in this article. Two things really set me off to write this article, the first of which, was upon returning from my trip to E3, I started reading the various online Warhammer Forums and found continual references to World of Warcraft in comparison to Warhammer Online. The second thing that pushed me to write about this topic was a comment made by Messiah at our interview with Mythic in which he referred to WAR as “World of Warhammer” (bad mistake and I still find myself wanting to send apology emails)… So without further ado “why Warhammer Online is NOT World of Warcraft”.

  • New Warhammer Online screenshot spread...

New screens today from Mythic with a decidedly wintry bent. It looks like the greenskin orcs and dwarves are set to face off in more mountainous climes.

The dwarven factory structure shown is especially refreshing; its nice to see some creative artists take a new stab at old themes. It looks nothing like EverQuest's angular caverns or World of Warcraft's vaulting ceilings in Ironforge (a strange setting for height-challenged gnomes and dwarves - and think of the heating bill in Dun Morogh).

  • Just when you think there is no E3 coverage left to be had... you find that you were so so wrong. Warhammer Online is the game. is the place.

The first sight to greet me as I sat down was my Ork character, beautifully armored in a set of haphazard armor, was that the enclosure had the look and feel I was expecting for an Ork encampment. The next thing I noticed was the presence of goblins and other Ork allies. Leaving the camp and approaching a stunning giant I was introduced to what was perhaps my favorite feature. Here I was automatically given a quest by the giant to fetch him 20 casks of beer that were conveniently lying around the area. This is something I have never seen in a game before but will be great for players like me who love to explore and find new things to do. As I moved further out from the camp I began to notice other features of the world. Sadly before I could explore much farther it was time to get up and go talk to the developers of the game.

  • How DID Mythic get the Warhammer IP? Hear the answer in Marc Jacobs own words in this Gamezone interview.

Well, you go to a franchise that is stellar in its own right, and Mythic, because of its association with Games Workshop, picked up the Warhammer title for the upcoming MMO Warhammer Online: Age of Reckoning. It was a bold move, in many ways, simply because of the built-in fanbase and the volume of Warhammer material that pretty much details just what the game has to have.

  • Interview and Screenshots from Warhammer Online

E3 2006 seems to be quickly moving into full media swing if you haven't noticed. The folks at FiringSquad have had the chance to sit down with the team at Mythic Entertainment. They have answers and 6 new screenshots to share.

FiringSquad: First, there has already been one attempt to turn Warhammer into an MMORPG. Why do you think that version did not come about and how will Mythic avoid the fate of the first game?

Mythic Entertainment: While we can’t comment on the fate of the Climax game, building MMORPG’s is Mythic’s specialty (it’s all we do!) so the future of this game has never been in question...
