  • Mythic's Paul Barnett offers a glimpse into the embattled world of the Empire.

GameSpy had a chance to talk to Paul Barnett and get a preview of the Empire, one of the factions in the upcoming Warhammer Online.

It would be difficult to find someone who will speak on the topic of Warhammer with more impassioned fervor than Mythic's Paul Barnett. The man seems to channel the spirits of the orcs, dwarves, and Chaos Marauders that populate the brutal world that he's helping to bring to life. As such, we could not think of anyone better to talk with us about the latest in-game faction for Warhammer: Age of Reckoning that Mythic has decided to unveil: the Empire. As you'd expect from the Warhammer universe, this human nation, to paraphrase Mr. Barnett, is teetering on the edge of annihilation at the hands of a multitude of assailants, not the least of which is humanity's own tendency to take the violent measures necessary for survival to wild extremes.

  • Warhammer Shows Off At PAX

MMORPG.com took time to preview the upcoming Warhammer Online while they attended PAX. Did they find it a sure hit or a flop in the making? Keep reading to find out...

The EA Mythic booth was packed by gamers gathered around the wide screen showing the cinematic trailer and laptops allowing them to get hands-on time with the races currently at a demonstrable stage.

At E3, Warhammer had already shown the Greenskins and the Dwarven races, and according to Content Designer John Cox they were showing off was the development of the UI and the Career Advancement; otherwise known as character development.

Each character will have three areas of skills to build. They are core, specialization and secondary abilities and points are awarded in each category as your character advances.

  • Is the Warhammer Online game in any way an attempt to be a translation of the table-top war game?

ComputerandVideoGames.com has posted a preview of the upcoming Warhammer Online Age of Reckoning.

Stood in a large hall, surrounded by empty tables where hundreds of undersized battles have been decided with hundreds of handfuls of dice, I ask Games Workshop's licensing manager Erik Mogensen a question that I know is a stupid one, but I feel I should ask. Is the Warhammer Online game in any way an attempt to be a translation of the table-top war game?

"Not at all. It's not about the table-top game, it's about the IP".

  • Double The Previews

Today both GameSpot and IGN have previews of Warhammer Online: Age of Reckoning posted. Keep reading to see what they have to say...

    GameSpot starts us off today.

Nothing says "summer" quite like having a bunch of video games in one place. At a recent press event at which publisher EA Games showed off a great many of its upcoming games, we had a chance to take an updated look at Warhammer Online: Age of Reckoning, the upcoming massively multiplayer game from developer Mythic and its brand-new publisher and corporate owner.

According to Mythic's Jeff Hickman, much of the content for the game's first "racial pairing," the dwarves versus the "greenskins" (a faction of orks and goblins), is complete, including many of the lower-level areas and items. In addition, though we were unable to see it in action, Mythic has begun production on the game's high-level player-versus-player (PVP) content, such as capital city raids, which will offer multiple types of treasures (including open, undefended loot and special items that can be obtained only by defeating specific enemy characters, such as merchants, barkeeps, and kings). These raids will let players capture enemy dignitaries and hold them hostage (and for some cheap humor) until they can be rescued by players from the opposing side.

Does IGN feel the same about this forthcoming game? Take a look and see...

Electronic Arts was prominently featuring Warhammer Online: Age of Reckoning at its press event today, as the game's developer, Mythic, was recently purchased by EA. We got to play the latest build, and while it was basically the same game we played at E3 a couple months ago, there are a few significant updates to report.

Tell us what you think in the forums here at Ten Ton Hammer!

  • Will Warhammer Online Be the Next Best Thing?

Worthplaying has posted a preview of Warhammer Online today. The review is chock full of screenshots and interesting observations...

When Dark Age of Camelot launched back in 2001, I felt it was EverQuest, only without the parts that I didn't like. By the same token, Warhammer Online: Age of Reckoning might be World of WarCraft: PVP Done Better.

Comparing WAR to WoW is inevitable — there are too many similarities to be dismissed. Both feature Orcs with cartoonish armor, both use similar fonts, and heck, even the names are similar. According to Games Workshop — the owners of the Warhammer name — Blizzard ripped them off. That might well be true, since my knowledge of Warhammer is limited to taking a look at a friend's miniatures and thinking, "Painting all of those must have been a hell of a lot of work." Even if Blizzard did borrow heavily from Games Workshop, because WoW launched first, Warhammer Online will be inevitably compared to WoW.

  • Warhammer Online Resurrected. I think that should be the official name of the game.
Warhammer Alliance has posted a brief preview of Warhammer Online. There isn't anything new here, but it's nice to see a site up and running to cover this "off in the distance" title by Mythic.

"Despite taking place in a entirely new setting, Mythic will be drawing
on all the Warhammer fantasy material no matter whether it comes from
the Warhammer Fantasy Battles or Warhammer Fantasy Roleplay. This will
ensure that this new game will look, feel, and perhaps even taste like
    real Warhammer.
    "

  • Camelot Hydro stocks gain ground.
MMOGInfo has posted a preview of Dark Age of Camelot: Darkness Rising. It's a rough read, that caused my head to A-Splode, but worth the look if you want more DAoC info. We felt compelled to contact a Speak and Spell toy, but all we could get was this:

" The shades are growing and becoming stronger in the world of Camelot, and in case it was not enough with the eternal war between the kingdoms of Albion, Hibernia and Midgard, now a new threat has arisen within each one from the kingdoms and threatens to destroying them without concerning its external conflicts. The moment has arrived for call the champions of each kingdom so that they unite their forces and avoid that the evil destroy its lives... "

  • What makes darkness rise? Is it like a helium balloon?
RPGVault has posted a preview of Dark Age of Camelot: Darkness Rising. Vin Diesel once wanted to hit a club earlier than usual, so he spun the Earth increasing the speed of its rotation causing darkness to rise. He did not however, ever say this:

" A look ahead to a major feature addition in Mythic's next online world expansion pack, player-controlled mounts "
