Mass Effect 3 is the third and final installment of BioWare's popular Mass Effect series relating to the story of Commander Shepard. The third game will raise the stakes in Commander Shepard's fight to save the galaxy from the deadly reaper threat. In the game's reveal trailer, Earth is shown in flames and under attack from an unknown alien force. Commander Shepard will have to rally the galaxy to fight the reapers and make decisions that could destroy entire civilizations from previous games.

Mass Effect 3 for the first time feature a multiplayer component to the series with the Galaxy War System, which will allow players to participate in cooperative multiplayer missions to help sway the galactic readiness in their own storyline. The multiplayer component is optional and players can still complete the single player game and get the best ending without ever playing the multiplayer mode.
