Currently in development, Free Realms is a family-oriented MMOG from Sony Online Entertainment that will focus on bringing fun and free entertainment to the MMOG-centric family unit. According to SOE President John Smedley, Free Realms will be an ad-based game that also includes specific instances of micro-trading but won't focus on that to earn money. This will be the first attempt by SOE to create a truly family-friendly game, and SOE hopes to emulate the success of titles like Maple Story and Runescape.

It's also been noted that Free Realms will be focusing on player-created content, an area that has been talked about in MMOGs but little has been done.
