More on Ten Ton Hammer
Unlike many of the games listed in the Ten Ton Hammer Game Overview section, MapleStory is a 2D side-scrolling MMOG. As a free-to-play game that earns money through micro-transactions, MapleStory has achieved fairly phenomenal success in the North American marketplace, boasting three million registered users in late 2006 and 50 million players worldwide.
MapleStory plays in a similar fashion to other online RPGs; gamers create personalized avatars that they use to explore the "Maple World" and defeat monsters. Players can band together to form groups, play mini-games or simply socialize. When they enter the game, every player is dubbed a "beginner" but once they reach level 7-8 players can choose from five different classes: "Swordman", "Magician", "Archer", "Rogue", or "Pirate".
