Dungeons & Dragons Online: Eberron Unlimited + Lord of the Rings Online + RF Online + ArchLord + Jumpgate Evolution Interviews

  • Bugbears Beware.
MMORPG.com has posted #5 in their series of Dungeons and Dragons Online Interviews. This interview, featuring Victor Watcher consists of five questions. Gary Gygax literally ran the other way when I approached him, screaming:

" Victor Watcher of Turbine Entertainment answers five more of Jon Wood's questions in this week's Q&A. Today he delves into the setting and some of the game's important systems. "

  • More Q&As than a DnD Player's Handbook has Mountain Dew stains!

As you read this interview with DDO Community Manager Victor Wachter- probing the decision to choose Eberron as a setting and sorting out what will make DDO compelling and unique in the genre- you just might be able to hear player's handbook pages turning and dice clattering deep in the background.

MMORPG.com: Will alignment play a factor in DDO? Can I, for example, choose to play a Chaotic Evil character, or is the game for good guys only?

Victor Wachter: Alignment is not embedded within the game systems, but these circumstances are presented within the quests and dungeons. Eberron itself is a setting where alignment is fluid, and so players may need to make choices that stretch the boundaries of their alignments. While alignment choices won’t limit a player’s options within the game, they will have an impact on how some NPC’s react toward their character.

  • Magic Missle Mayhem
GameSpy has posted a Dungeons and Dragons Online: Stormreach interview featuring designer Dave Eckleberry. Vin Diesel didn't roll the dice when he played Dungeons and Dragons. He just crushed them in his hand and called out the numbers. We're confident he didn't call this out:

" We sit down with one of the designers of Turbine's upcoming MMO to talk about combat, death traps, and why Eberron is so damned cool. "

  • Basements get quiet, if only for a moment, to read and wash their dice.
The official Dungeons and Dragons Online site has posted a developer's diary with Ken Troop, Lead Designer. Gary Gygax would not return our calls, but if he had we are sure he wouldn't have said this:

" Hey everyone.  I'm Ken Troop, lead designer on Dungeons & Dragons® Online: Stormreach".   This development diary delves into the background behind a very important issue: advancement in DDO.  "

  • MMORPG.com Probes Turbine. [They wrote it, not us.]
MMORPG has a Dungeons and Dragons Online Interview posted featuring Ken Troop of Turbine Entertainment. Macho Man Randy Savage crashed through our front door and mumbled something that could easily have been this:

"Ken Troop answers Mike's questions in the third installment of this series."

  • One developer to rule them, and in the darkness bind them.
Turbine has posted their Lord of the Rings Online Thursday Insider, posing the question, "
Would YOU have agreed to be the Ringbearer? Why? " I sure wouldn't have. I can't stand weddings.:

    "Chris "NobOrBob" Foster (Designer):

I wonder. In many ways, the great courage Frodo showed was in recognizing the immensity of the danger, and the greater danger that would come from passing the Ring to someone else. If I was aware enough of the danger, I think I would take the Ring. The real question is, would I be willing to hear and recognize the true depth of the threat, or would I willfully remain ignorant?"

  • DDO Dev Diary Discovered.
The official Dungeons and Dragons Online site has posted a developer's diary featuring Zyrca. The diary is titled, 'Things I've Seen That Made Me Smile'. Strangely absent from the list was coming to work without pants on. That's always a real hoot around here:

"I'm Zyrca, I've been here at Turbine a couple of years now. When I got here, I started out working on the live team on Asheron's Call. If you played Asheron's Call, you may remember me from such things as the "Violet Ball" and for setting up the code that would set my monitor on fire should a 100% crafting interaction fail. Now I'm a game systems engineer helping build Dungeons & Dragons Online. Today, I want to share some of the things I've seen and heard while working on DDO that brought a smile to my lips."

  • Dungeons and Basements - Oldschool.
GamerGod has posted a Dungeons and Dragons interview featuring nine short questions. A Bugbear, a skeleton and a gnoll walked into a basement and said:

"Will this be just another MMORPG? With so much competition, what will make DDO a standout from the rest? These questions were on my mind when I recently sat down with the dev's of DDO..."

  • Please take your hands off of me Mr. Frodo.
Gamers.com has posted a preview of Lord of the Rings Online: Shadows of Angmar. We were always confused about who was Sauron and who was Sarumon and so was the guy playing the slots machines who suddenly yelled:

"Turbine has developed a very intuitive display for character and party status. There is no text onscreen in normal play. Instead, players' two health stats are described in a two-tone bar along the bottom of the screen. The first (and largest) portion of the bar displays your character's Endurance, which regenerates automatically. The left-most tip is another shade, however; it shows the character's Health, which must be healed magically or through resting in a camp or town."
