  • A Brief History of Azeroth

This is a very brief summary of the history of the World of Warcraft races, the formation of the Horde and Alliance factions, and the threat from the Burning Crusade.

“The world of Azeroth, from its beginning, has had an enemy which has threatened all life on the world. That enemy is the Burning Legion, started by the rebel Titan Sargeras. They call their desire to consume and destroy all life on all worlds the Burning Crusade.”

  • More events to celebrate Halloween

The official site for World of Warcraft has been updated with a page that tells you all of the events and fun things going on between today and November 1st.

Observed by both the Horde and the Alliance, Hallow's End is the celebration of the break between the Forsaken and the Scourge. Adventurers can speak to innkeepers to get silly masks to wear during their adventures, and much more. This is just one way to celebrate Hallow's End.

  • Three Beta Reports

Gamespy has updated their site with three articles that report on the beta experience for Wow's upcoming expansion, The Burning Crusade.

The first is a look at the Hellfire Peninsula...

On the Blasted Lands side of the Dark Portal, the crater area has been cleared out of high-level mobs, and quest-giving NPCs have been added instead. This begins a series of quest breadcrumbs that lead you through the Dark Portal, into Outland, and to the first major city where you can start loading up on quests.

Second is a journal of sorts as the author tries out a Blood Elf Paladin...

Yesterday, I kicked off with my early experiences of The Burning Crusade playing as a freshly created Blood Elf Paladin. Today, I'm going to finish up talking about the newbie zone, Eversong Woods, and then we'll move onto the level 10-20 zone called Ghostlands.

Finally is a trek to level 70 as blue-skinned Draenei Shaman...

If there's something I missed about World of Warcraft since I began my days as a raider, it was the feeling you get when filling up your quest log with assorted missions, and filling your bags with assorted loot rewards, inching your way to the next level. While the level 70 cap will allow me to experience that with my main, I'm enjoying the low-level experience all over again, with my beta test of the Draenei starting area. Since the Draenei shaman offers the most unique experience for Alliance characters, I went that route and began my adventure by swinging my mace and earth shocking things in the face. Just wait until I learn frost shock!

  • Account Security

Account security is a big issue these days. All kinds of perilous traps lay within the Internet that attempt to steal away your all of the loot you've collected. That's why we've taken an in-depth look at how you can keep your account safer without doing very much extra!

"A secure username/password combo starts with having a unique username. This is the simplest part of all but many do make this mistake. You should always make your username something unrelated to your online persona. It should be different from your email alias or your in-game names. If no one knows your account name then they can't have a jab at guessing your password (which is already near impossible to do)."

  • Sprawl's Scrawl - First Impressions of Closed Beta

WoW Vault has posted a preview of WoW's upcoming expansion, The Burning Crusade. This preview is full of impressions from closed beta, so don't miss out!

One of the first things you notice upon logging into Burning Crusade beta is a number of quick popup boxes that indict that the system is scanning for viruses and the like. It's good to see that Blizzard is taking active steps at keeping a blacklist of known exploits. Once again the new player is presented with a view of the Dark Portal, this time from the Outland side. At this point, if you haven't upgraded your account with a key, do not expect to login.

  • Play it just one more time...

This week at TenTonHammer the community managers at each of our sites are looking at how games handle the end game. Is the repeatable instanced endgame a good way to handle a level capped game? World of Warcraft uses this schema and it is the current killer MMO on the market, does that make it the best method or just the current favorite method. I also take a look at some of the advantages and disadvantages of using it as a system.

Blizzard has mastered this system of end game play in World of Warcraft. They use the system in many forms and layers. They use the system for 5 man end game instances such as Stratholme, Scholomance, Dire Maul, and the Blackrock Spyre instances to gain dungeon tier 1 and 2 armor sets. They also setup another repetitive process in each of the end game small and large raids. In the small raids (Zul’Gurrub and Ruin’s of Ahn’Qiraj) you must run the raids many times to earn reputation and to collect items (idols, scarabs and bijous as examples) that are turned in for items from the quest givers for the area. In large raids they do it by making drop rates for each of the tier 1 and 2 armor sets to be very low so that you must continue to run the instance to collect the whole set. As World of Warcraft continues to expand Blizzard has continued to learn and refine its craft and make end game instance even more repeatable.

  • What is Outlands like? What are the two new race areas like? How is the new loot?

Voodoo Extreame has a preview to answer all of these questions.

The Burning Crusade closed beta is finally out, and after much gnashing of teeth, I have stopped playing long enough to be able to write up some "hands on" impressions of the game. I do not want to bore you all with the details of every little minute detail of what has gone into The Burning Crusade expansion pack, and the truth is, a lot of things have been beat to death in other previews.

  • World of Warcraft: The Burning Crusade Updated Hands-On - The Two New Races

GameSpot has taken the time to look at the blood elf and draenei characters that will appear in the upcoming expansion The Burning Crusade.

Thousands of players from around the globe log into the game daily, and nightly (and daily, and nightly, and daily, and nightly) to play as a wizard, warrior, or thief in the colorful Warcraft fantasy universe. And (hopefully) later this year, the studio will release The Burning Crusade, the expansion pack for the game which will add plenty of high-level content for veterans as well as two new playable fantasy races to build new characters with. We took the opportunity to get in-depth with the two new races, the fanatical blood elves of the monstrous Horde faction and the mystical draenei characters of the noble Alliance.

Get clicking to read more. What has you burning to try out this new expansion? Let us know in the Ten Ton Hammer Forums after you get up to date on all the latest at our WoW Ten Ton Hammer Community site.
