  • This just in!

    Dear RF Online Community,

I am very happy to announce the retail launch dates for RF Online.

It's been an exciting and tiring journey and the hard work is only just beginning. In fact for the US members it will be starting a lot sooner than you can imagine.
Tuesday 21st February will see RF Online shipping to stores which will mean distribution throughout the week as boxes hit store shelves. We will follow the US launch with
the UK launch on Friday 24th February where you can pick up your copy of RF Online from your local game store. The rest of Europe will follow 2 weeks after.

Simon Humphries will explain the how we are rolling out the servers for the different launch dates to give everyone an equal start in game. Keep an eye out for his Producer Letter
    just after this post.

We look forward to seeing you all back on Novus later this week.

    Have fun storming the castle!

  • Free time is over! It's almost time to start paying for that playing.

In a press release, Codemasters has this to say.

The beta period draws to an end... - Michael 'Zzeno' Rowland (Community Liaison Manager)
    BETA
    BETA
A message for the beta testers:

I'd like to take this opportunity to thank you all for your hard work and dedication thus far.

The beta period has had its ups and its downs but in our opinion it has been a huge success in helping us
find and resolve crucial issues. With those issues fixed and with a couple minor gameplay issues being worked on, we are very confident that we are ready for the retail launch.

It is with this in mind that I have to make the following announcement about the closed beta. Thanks to the help of the community, the resolve of the dev team and the demands of you the customer, we will be closing the beta servers down and preparing for the launch of the full retail version of RF Online. Servers will be wiped, cleaned up and installed with the latest RF Online client and fixes.

Following up on today's beta announcement we will also be hearing from the games Producer, Simon Humphries, on what we have learned from the month long beta plus what we foresee in regard to updates for RF Online.

Please keep an eye on the news section for more details on the launch dates for RF Online across Europe and in the US.

So.. keep your eyes open. We'll have news on when this baby is going to launch.

  • Far Over Misty Mountains Cold...

Tolkien's realms of Middle-earth are ripe with lore: most characters have a detailed lineage; most places have a rich history; and songs and poems have an important place. To some gamers, rich lore amounts to little more than "fluff." But to Lord of the Rings Online: Shadows of Angmar (LOTRO) fans, all that fluffy content is essential to making a beloved fantasy world come to life.

Shayalyn discusses some of the things she's eager to see in LOTRO, and none of them relate specifically to killing monsters or grinding away at levels.

Instead of just rendering killing fields where adventurers go to gain experience by slaying monster after monster, Turbine is charged with the enormous task of making the worlds of Middle-earth come to life. We’ll be able to wander through the Shire and Barrow Downs. We’ll be able to experience the ethereal beauty that is Rivendell and Lórien. Perhaps we’ll recoil at the horrors of the Dead Marshes.

  • There's a Tavern in the Town

Where's the fluff in Dungeons & Dragons Online: Stormreach? Well, it's practically non-existent. Shayalyn went in search of non-leveling content and found very little in DDO, so she chose to hang out in taverns...er, write about taverns. Are taverns non-leveling content? Eh...maybe?

  • What's in a Server Name?

With his tongue just slightly wedged in his cheek, Ralsu takes a look at the newly announced Dungeons & Dragons Online: Stormreach North American server names and reveals a bit about the meanings behind them and, in the style of sports and news analysts, his predictions about server population and the agenda and mentality of the potential player base.

  • We're very worried

Light of Arnor is just plain worried about Lord of the Rings: Shadows of Angmar (LOTRO). In fact, he's so worried about things like cartoony graphics, PvP, lore and the end game that he may turn into a lemur while popping Xanax, drinking Everclear, and eating toxic pufferfish. Whatever shall he do to quell his mounting anxiety?

I'm very worried about my ability to have, well, the
important things. Will my sideburns be over 4 inches? Will I have the
ability to look 80 when I wish? Will I have the option to create a
morbidly obese onyx-skinned elf who's 5-foot-long hair flawlessly sways
in the wind as I run smoothly through the Balrog-infested woods of
Lorien? I'm worried about how perfectly unique I'm going to look. I'm
entitled to that, ya know. I pay good, hard money to be able to make
whatever I want, and I should have the ability to look unlike anything
else in Middle-earth. Nothing's helping. I'm calling my Psychiatrist
    (thank god for speed dial).

It's a fun, offbeat poke at overly anxious, pre-launch forum communities! Enjoy it responsibly at our LotRO @ TenTonHammer community site!

  • Explore DDO's Versatile Fighter

Ralsu of our DDO @ TenTonHammer community brings us a basic guide to the fighter in Dungeons & Dragons Online: Stormreach. If combat is your thing, and you like to dish it out as well as you take it, then the versatile fighter may be the class for you.

Adventuring parties welcome fighters for their ability to withstand hits while providing solid damage. When the party’s scout bumps into a gargoyle around the corner or spiders besiege the cleric, it will be the fighter who rushes in to “clean house.” Players who choose to create a fighter will enjoy the ability to join any fracas and the specialization possible because of the numerous bonus feats fighters receive.

Which abilities, skills, feats and enhancements are important when creating a fighter? Read the fighter class guide at DDO - TenTonHammer to find out!
