Jumpgate Evolution + Dungeons & Dragons Online: Eberron Unlimited + Lord of the Rings Online + RF Online + ArchLord Features, Guides, and more

  • It's all in your head... well, it used to be!

Dave Thomas (no relation to the "Wendy's" founder, I don't think) is an old-school Dungeons & Dragons player and a reporter for Grand Rapids Press. He's been playing Dungeons & Dragons Online: Stormreach and offers his take on this relatively new group-based MMO:

The magic of playing classic D&D with hardbound rulebooks was that monster manuals always lived in the player's head. If you didn't dream up a boundary in your mind's eye, the possibilities were endless. D&D Online, on the other hand, feels more like a movie, with a constraining atmosphere and a sense of completeness.

  • LotRO - TenTonHammer interviews the White Wizard!

What prompted Gandalf to ask Bilbo to surrender his magic ring? What really happened after Gandalf, along with the balrog, plunged into the chasm in Moria? How did Gandalf the Grey return as Gandalf the White? Our reporter in Middle-earth meets with the legendary wizard to learn his secrets.

“What can you tell me about who you are, and where you come from?”

“That,” said Gandalf, “is rather complicated.” He reached behind his beard and seemed to draw a pipe from nowhere. He continued to talk as he filled the bowl. “I came to Middle-earth as one of the Istari, the order of wizards who arrived after the first millennium of the Third Age.”

  • A tell-all interview with... a Dungeons & Dragons Online NPC?

Each month, DDO - Ten Ton Hammer brings you an interview from the Dungeons and Dragons Online: Stormreach (DDO) community. Okay. Here's the deal: Ralsu had an interview lined up with Sporkfire and Samera, but Friday he realized he wasn't able to get all of the questions answered in time for this month's interview.

Ralsu was desperate for an interview with most people's schedules filled up for the weekend. When his own mother turned him down, he remembered that Three-Fingered Thad would do anything for money. Keep your eyes peeled for that exclusive interview with Turbine's community figureheads in May. In the meantime, enjoy his chat with Three-Fingered Thad!

Ralsu: How does one become a vendor NPC?

Thad: All ye have to do is have somethin' to sell and a winning smile. (chuckles for a bit before starting to cough)

Ralsu. I see. And do you craft your wares yourself.

Thad: Craft 'em myself! Har! Er--no.

    Ralsu (confused): ...

Thad: Now, why d'ye suppose it is called Smuggler's Rest, lad?

Wha? You don't have one yet? Well, me either. In game conference press rooms, the "What if the hokey pokey really is what it's all about?" bumper sticker on my laptop subjects me to enough scornful laughter, thanks.

  • It's a famous landmark and now you get to see it through the eyes of the Turbine crew. See the Brandywine Bridge here. and read the lore behind it.

The Bridge of Stonebows, as the Brandywine Bridge was once called, was built originally by the Men of Arnor as a causeway across the Barandúin River on the Great East Road. When the founders of the Shire were granted their land by the king of Arthedain, the price was simple: to maintain and care for the Bridge so that travel into the West would never be impeded. The Hobbits of the Shire performed their duty, even long after the North-kingdom failed, and maintained the great stone bridge, denying none passage, Man, Elf, or Dwarf. Though the river's name was changed to the Brandywine and the bridge itself became the Brandywine Bridge, the Hobbits of the Shire continue to care for and keep watch on the Bridge.

  • Codemasters has taken a heavy handed stance with RMT companies and people who use this mode of gameplay. Real Money Trading will not be sanctioned nor tolerated in this one so if you feel the need to deal in it, I'd advise picking another game.

As you know, Ten Ton Hammer took the stance in January that we would no longer sell adspace to gold traders or any secondary market company. So, with that said, we applaud Codemasters for standing by their policy.

    Greetings, Citizens of Novus.

Today, following a brief investigation which began on a tip from an anonymous Bellato from spirit server, we have suspended over 170 accounts involved in a major RMT operation.

I would like to make it clear that a number of our investigations come from the valuable contributions you the players make, who spend enough time in Novus to recognize the patterns normally associated with these groups. Your help is invaluable, and we thank you.

Please remember to report suspicious activities at: http://cogsupport.codemasters.com/

  • Hunters of Undead in DDO

Aelasyl brings the Dungeons & Dragons Online: Stormreach - TenTonHammer faithful a Custom Build straight from Eberron lore: the Aereni Deathguard. If you're a hardcore Eberron fan excited about Dungeons & Dragons Online: Stormreach (DDO), this could be the build for you. Heck, the Deathguard is fun to play even if DDO is your first visit to Eberron!

While the elves of Aerenal venerate their undying ancestors, they despise all negatively charged undead. These foul creatures that defile the world are shades of what they used to be. The Deathguard actively hunt down and exterminate negatively charged undead. This character combines the holy righteousness of a Paladin 4 with the skilled stalking abilities of the Ranger 6.

Learn how to build the Aereni Deathguard class at DDO - TenTonHammer today!

  • Take charge for the win!

Every gamer wants to know about the classes in a new game. Knowing the list of classes isn't enough for gamers drooling in anticipation of Lord of the Rings Online: Shadows of Angmar (LOTRO). Tolkien fans hope to learn how each class manifests the lore of Middle-earth while providing a functioning game mechanic. Ralsu takes a peek at the Captain and tells us what to expect:

Any class that buffs damage output is welcomed in a Fellowship, and the Captain will fit that bill. The onus will be on the player to be mobile, dropping banners where they do the most good. Fellowships will quickly find players who don't utilize the Captain's abilities deftly expendable.

Read Ralsu's introduction to the Captain class, at LotRO - TenTonHammer to learn more.

  • Defenders, Guards, and...the FBI?

Aelasyl brings us the first in a series on Eberron lore. He takes us inside House Deneith and explains its structure and role in Dungeons & Dragons Online: Stormreach (DDO):

House Deneith is a family of proud humans that bear the Mark of the Sentinel. This mark allows the heir to protect a person or an object of worth. Members of House Deneith can be found scattered across Xen’drik, using their marks to protect the wonders of ages past and the people searching for them.
